Ryan did a great job teaching my 12 year old son (and his 2 x 12/13 year old friends) surfing these holidays - despite the wintry day, the boys had a lot of fun and really progressed during the lesson. He was really nice and patient with the boys, and kept it fun and not overly technical (it would have been way too cold to spend ages going through theory on the sand!). We will definitely be booking again!

In just a few lessons Ryan has really helped our 10 year old progress his surfing. His confidence and technique are improving and he has absolutely loved every minute. The one on one private session is worth every cent for rapid skills development and progression. Highly recommend Ryan and his team.

My wife and daughter wanted to take a surfing lesson in Sydney and luckily we found Manly Surf Guide.
I contacted Eric the owner and set an appointment for the next day.
Eric met us and drove us to a quite beach for their surf lessons.
He was patient and explained everything to the girls.
By the end of their lesson each had ridden a wave in and wanted to keep going.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Manly Surf Guide if you want to learn to surf or just improve your skills and have a lot of fun learning to do it.

Hi Allin,
Thanks so much for your feedback on our TripAdvisor page. We value feedback as it helps us to improve our service and manage our staff.
The girls did an amazing job and I had a great time teaching them how to surf.
It was great to see both of them standing up and riding waves to the beach after just 20 minutes.
Looking forward to surfing with you all next time you're in town.
Ryan Hayfield (although Eric is also fine haha!)

Yes I surfed, I caught 2 good waves and 3 others in 5 hours in the water. Rick did his best to be accommodating with a 2 day rescheduling fiasco. But ultimately the guide took 6 of us to the worst spot on the beach. We fought the kelp and weeds on every ride. I have been surfing several times and was really hoping to get a good safe area where I could grow. I did explain this when I booked but this really is just for kids and true beginners.

Hi Jthlampert,
Thank you for coming surfing with us and leaving your feed back on our TripAdvisor page.
We value feedback as it helps us to improve our service and manage staff.
In the past 4 weeks we have had a lot of rain and large and dangerous surf conditions across the whole east coast of Australia so we have had no choice but to reschedule a few of our lessons and tours. By law we can not run surf tours and lessons if the beaches are closed due to unsafe surf conditions. I appreciate your patience with rescheduling your day tour.
As a beginner or intermediate surfer it can take a long time to become competent at reading the ocean and developing good wave knowledge.
When choosing the right location for the group to surf, our experienced guides and coaches are looking out for a lot more than a few pieces of seaweed.
We look out for rips, large shore dumps, strong sweep, large waves and crowds. Our focus is to choose the safest and best location on the beach for our students to learn and progress.
Catching your own waves involves a lot of timing, especially when catching unbroken green waves. This can take a good 12 months of surfing consistently, around 3 - 5 times a week to become fairly competent.
We encourage all of our students to use the coaches as much as they can in their lessons to assist them with the timing, positioning and choosing the right wave. I think you did an amazing job to catch 5 waves completely by yourself with out the assistance of your coach as you insisted on doing that day. Great job!

We got surf lessons for our two pre-teen children and my wife and I. None of us had any experience.

After a quick discussion of how to get up on the surf board (i.e. surfing), you get in the water and begin to learn. Everyone had a great time.
