What a busy restaurant - every table taken and you need to book in advance.
Food was delicious and expensive.
Portions were quite small but it varied on your choice of dish as some portions were bigger.
Was glad that I had a big lunch so didnt have to worry too much about having a lighter evening meal.
Would go again !

Sydney is replete with restaurants serving Japanese cuisine, which makes it hard to be noticed, and somehow I had missed Sake. Fortunately my friends are more observant and invited me to a lunch at Sake.

The restaurant is tucked into a historic building in the Rocks area of Sydney and the entrance from the street is easy to miss if you aren't paying attention. Looking through the glass door you don't see much and it would be easy to dismiss the place. If you venture in the dining area is actually open and light, facing into the internal courtyard, from which you can also enter.

The service is polite and attentive, without being intrusive. The tables are reasonably spaced, although the size of the place would permit greater room between them, which would be an improvement. Although the place wasn't full, the staff seated everyone in one area of the restaurant, which undoubtedly makes their tasks easier, but also contributes to false sense of being crowed. It is simple to rectify, and it would improve the ambience.

The food is Japanese fusion, well prepared and nicely presented. You can construct an interesting meal by selecting from a wide variety of smaller dishes, washed down with a selection of different sake.

The Teriyaki Burger Balls are great.

This was one of the best meals I have had in my entire life. The sommelier helped us pick out a type of sake to start with and then ended up helping us pick our entire menu for the evening. Our waiter was very nice but not that attentive and the sommelier ended up talking us through almost the entire meal. The place is not cheap but if you order well, it will be one of the best meals you ever have. We had a decadent expereince and I would highly suggest to any sushi loves who come to Sydney. We tried to book a reservation same day on a weekend but they were sold out so I would suggest making a reservation in advance. We happened to luck out and walked in to see if they had any cancellations and they were able to seat us but we didn't have a great table and were seated near the bathroom. It didn't hinder this experience though!
