Description: Bills Surry Hills opened under the hotel on Crown Street in 1996. A great spot - since then, Surry Hills has transformed itself from a quiet rag-trade area of Sydney to the centre of the city's media and arts communities and its restaurant hot-spot. The open kitchen at bills Surry Hills is lively and fun all day: locals pick up their coffee or fresh juice on the way to work; friends chat over brunch; business lunches are held next to prams, backpacks and the occasional celebrity; and neighbourhood families drop in for an easy dinner.

I absolutely love love love Bills and could eat breakfast there every day.
Hint - skip the bacon and ask for avocado salsa with your corn fritters instead.

Honeycomb ricotta hotcakes are also a must-eat.

“Corn fritters.....yum!!”
Reviewed 19 January 2012

Corn fritters and the cottage cheese pancakes seem to be signature dishes for breakfast, brunch, and hell, why not for lunch too. These are seriously good dishes, as is nearly everything on the menu. Brown sugar pavlova after dinner demands a special mention too.
In the last week I have had 2 breakfasts, 1 coffee break, and 1 evening meal here, and the food each time has been superb. I haven't had to queue yet but I admit I haven't been there at the peak weekend breakfast time.
The service has always been attentive-friendly and never rude or overly intrusive. When we sat outside with the 2 dogs they were given their own water bowl without me having to ask.
The menu suggestions from the waiters have proven to be well informed, and the specials are worth getting. No long waits for food or attention from the wait staff. There is enough room for private conversations at your table, but it is not a romantic-type setting. Nonetheless it is a place where you could go on your own or in a group of say 4 to 8 people, and always feel comfortable. And as I keep saying about this area, there is always a passing parade of interesting looking Surrey Hills residents to keep you people watching if you have none to talk to, or even if you have. Have also eaten at Bills in Woollahra where menu seems very similar (apart from some specials?), and the high standard is the same.

“Relaxing atmosphere and humble but quality food.”
Reviewed 18 January 2012

My husband and I spent a rainy morning at Bills and enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere and beautifully prepared humble but quality food. The staff were friendly and made excellent suggestions as to what to try on the menu. The ingredients used were fresh and presented beautifully. This place is perfect for Brunch or a long lunch.
