I was hanging out with a guy from work and his family and we took his kids to the CSIRO discovery centre. They had a great time, Playing with all the interactive stuff and probably learning along the way.
If you have kids and need to get they doing something fun this might help you out. The price is certain great = free entry!

I've been here a number of times and array of different sections ranging from alive insects to million year old fossils and the insight into renewable energy is amazing. Good for all ages, everyone still learns something new!

A well presented set of science exhibits in a pleasant facility, and just a 20 minutes walk from the Canberra Center. It happened to be free to enter on the day we visited but it isn't too expensive even when they are charging. Our teenagers enjoyed looking around and hopefully went away having learnt something.

Just at the bottom of Black Mountain, turn left & left again & you are there. Take the kids, & the adults. The displays & information is astounding, a case of "I did not know that". Have afternoon tea while you are there. They do close around 4.

Definitely worth visiting, especially with kids & 2 hours easily disappears. The updated facilities are excellent.
