“Secluded, quiet cottage”
Reviewed 13 September 2017 for a stay in February 2017

We stayed at this cottage in February 2017 for a week. The cottage is lovely, well presented, and a great base to explore from.

We had no problems finding the property, from the instructions given and checking on Google maps we found it easily. When we arrived we were really pleased, as it was spacious, well designed and bigger than it looked in the photos.

We had originally booked for 2 people, and when we arrived only one of the 2 rooms was made up. We had changed our plans and had another couple with us for a night, so after looking round for some bedding and not finding any, we called the owner, and she was very friendly and directed us to the spare bedding for us to use. We could easily have been friends not a couple, so I would recommend to the owner to make both rooms up anyway. But our issue was easily resolved.

The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need, in fact, probably some of the stuff could be thrown away, as there was a lot of gadgets I doubt anyone uses! But it means that there was everything we needed to cook, which was great.

The full height hallway in the middle of the house makes it feel very spacious, and the living room and bedrooms are lovely cosy.

It was fairly bad weather for our week (not surprising being February in the Highlands!), but we had a great week exploring on our mountain bikes, and going to both the Aviemore area and Fort William area, so it was a great central location.

We enjoyed coming back to a lovely warm house, hanging out wet kit up in the large porch/utility, and cosying in by the wood burner with a film.

It is an amazingly quiet location, with easy access to the main road so not too isolated. At night we were amazed how dark it was with absolutely no light pollution.

This is a great base for a quiet break, with loads to explore close by.

“lovely peaceful cottage”
Reviewed 22 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

we arrived and entered the cottage and imediately felt at home. It was warm and cosy. It was very well equipped and comfortable. We did have a problem with the main oven, it was not working and still not fixed when we left which was a pain as we took meals with us and had to waste 3 as they could not be done in microwave.... the underfloor heating in bathroom had no instructions and the heated towel rail in bathroom did not work. We found there was no where to hang your bathrobe in the bathroom. There was also no wardrobe in bedrooms, just one small clothes rail in the main bedroom. Putting aside these issues, the cottage is amazing, so quiet and peaceful, we fed the birds and loved watching them, especially the 9 grouse that turned up twice a day, and the hooting owl at night. There is something living in the loft space and it knaws and scratches now and then, but it does not come into the house so no worries just part of being in the countryside ! All in all an amazing restful week, The Highland Folk Museum was great, so was the Highland Wildlife Park.

“Fantastic location. The perfect getaway”
Reviewed 31 August 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed here for a week in may 2016. The cottage is absolutely perfect in every way. Stunning peaceful location but not too far from civilisation. The weather was amazing while we were there so we made use of the barbecue a few times and were able to sit outside until late. There is everything you need if you plan on cooking and eating in. There are also miles of forestry tracks to explore. The only downside for us was the fact that dogs weren't allowed as it would be ideal for dog owners

“THE PERFECT GET AWAY FROM IT ALL!!”

Extremely comfortable cottage finished to a high standard and everything you would need is there apart from internet access /Wi-Fi there is none which suited us also mobile phone reception is fine. Cottage sits on its own and is very well situated in this beautiful area. There are numerous walks if wanted straight from the front door. We went for a complete chill out week and that's what we got. If you want to get away from the fast pace of the world then this is the place to go!! Would definitely recommend to anyone and would love to go back!!

Feagour cottage
(or if you want to pronounce it right Fee-ga-wer)
It is exactly as described. We have just returned (21 -03 15) from a fantastic week of walking.
The place is so peaceful and quiet, with walks from your door with no requirement to drive anywhere, except for shops.
Laggan just up the road with a small shop logs bread milk etc bigger shops in Newtonmore about 15 -20 minutes slow drive (Why would you go fast anyway?)

The cottage:
Best to read the notes left everywhere before you settle in too much this way it will save you time later, some not so obvious things that will need to be pointed out to you like recycling etc.
Warm cosy well facilitated with everything you need and more the heating is central and with a log burner. Apart from the starter pack You will need to supply your own logs or donate some cash if you use the ones in the log store or in our case just replace them. Bed ok, we found it a little hard but hey, im not complaining. Unfortunately guest book full, we were unable to say thank you to the owners.

(top tip if you’re using the log burner look for the brass knob on the RH side and pull it out to get a draw on the fire when you’re happy push it back in again, you will know when its burning properly as it will sing to you LOL..... you will know what I mean)
The shower was great and roomy didn’t use the bath all worked fine. Sky TV worked fine also when chilling at night. Phone signal ok, so you have coms if you need them. The cottage was great.

The wildlife:
Extensive logging and the construction of new pylons route immediately behind the cottage has devastated and all but cleared off the local wildlife. read through the guest book and some have seen everything we had IR night vision and seen nothing all week although the odd red deer track could be found but these are individuals and not in herds. Although disappointing not the fault of the owners and the wildlife will return soon enough. This does not include the greedy pheasants that will clear up all the bird food you put out and even jump up on to the pole feeder. Please also note you may hear tapping on the window in the morning don’t panic its just the birds tapping at the glass in the main living room and it happened twice.

Last words:

A wonderful cottage and wonderful location
Did we like it...A big yes
Would we go back.... Yes
Do we recommend it ....Yes

If you found this review useful please take the time to say so, as we all take the time to tell you about it
Thank you
M
