We spent four weeks in "Villa Arthur" in June and July. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a base in Liguria with an environment that makes you want to stay at the cottage. It is the easiest place to relax that I know.
The description on Trip Advisor is entirely accurate, although it took us a bit longer to travel around, but it does not truly reflect how great it feels. You just have to experience it yourself.
Eating: we tended to eat in having shopped in the local towns of Diano Marina and Imperia. A well appointed kitchen and good local produce made this an important part of our holiday. There are several good places to eat out and I heartily recommend a trip up to Lucanesco and Trattoria Dallas Etta. Outstanding taster menu of eight dishes, each one a work of art, we went back with family and with friends.
Trips out: Cervo is a must visit place. Good beaches in Diano Marina. Be prepared for a surprise, you may just want to stay put at the cottage or enjoy walking locally in the olive groves.
Practicalities: don't trust sat nav in the mountains, supplement with paper map. Electricity is on low power supply so don't overload it or it will trip out; be sensible. If you drink tea then take a kettle or be prepared to boil water in a saucepan.
We were lucky enough to spend a month in the American cottage. We loved it. Arthur was very helpful and answered all my questions prior to arrival. Nothing seemed too much bother for him and we genuinely felt he cared about us enjoying our stay.
We were met after a nightmare drive (our Sat Nav tried to take us down a white, mountain road to get there) by Margheritta. She was so kind and had a wonderful sense of humour. We shared a much needed and revitalizing glass of wine together!
The cottage is a cool, peaceful haven. We were there from mid June and the evenings felt cool as there is not much evening sun reaching the property. From July this was not a problem
Spending the day out and coming back to the peace of the cottage was lovely. We found some beautiful walks among olive groves where you can see for miles. We painted and read and wrote. We loved Cervo and went twice to an amazing restaurant up in the mountains in Lucinasco called Trattoria dalla Etta. They do an delicious tasting menu where the courses never seem to stop coming! Very close and worth a peaceful wander is Laghetto Lucinasco. Be warned though, high mountain roads to get there!
We enjoyed Diano Marina, with friendly beaches and lovely shops...especially fresh pasta and fresh fish. The fruit and veg is fantastic. We took "Jamie's Italian" cookery book with us and had a lot of wonderful Italian feasts cooked in Arthurs kitchen. We highly recommend staying here and look forward to returning. Huge thanks to Arthur, Margheritta and Rosa for the most wonderful holiday ever.
Excellent location for someone who is looking for peaceful and quiet place to stay, very relaxing atmosphere. It looks exactly how it is been described.Stunning views and very friendly neighbourhood.Close to the beach and at the same time in the middle of olive groves. The property itself it is very cosy, definitely worth visiting.Arthur was very helpful and gave us a lot of information with places to go and things to do.Also Jenny, the host was very friendly and welcoming, she gave us a lot of hints too, made us feel at home.
