“Beautiful site with fresh air”
Review of Korkeakoski

Korkeakoski
Attraction details

Beautiful natural site with long traditions as a tourist attraction. The paths and staircases are well maintained and well positioned for more inexperienced hiker.

If you're up for more challenges you can do the Kanjoninkierros-hike from Korkeakoski to the near-by village of Tuovilanlahti. Search for signage up the road from parking.

Magnificent scenery with an easy access. An excellent kiosk run by two friendly young women who certainly can cook and bake. There's both sweet and savory along with cold and warm drinks. If you're feeling brave, try the traditional Finnish 'salmiakki' in a new way: turkinpippurituorejuustoleivos is the best pie I've ever had.

Korkeakoski in the municipality of Maaninka (Tuovilanlahti) is the tallest rapid in Finland. Officially it is 36.4 meters high but they claim in brochures that the height is 46 meters.

Korkeakoski isn't the most beautiful rapid in Finland. It isn't the tallest direct waterfall either because water flows along a hill. However, Korkeakoski is absolutely worth a visit because it is very easily accessible.

There is also a nice nature trail (3.2 kilometers) there but you don't have to hike if you only want to see the rapid.

We visited Korkeakoski on July 28th, 2012. See photos enclosed. There is more water in the rapid in the spring.

It's about 46 m or so high. There is not much too see in late summer. It is at it's best on late May and early June.
