We reached the Beach Placid Resort at around 8pm on the 17th of April after a long 3-hrs land journey from Cebu City & ferry to the island. From the outside, I thought it would be a great Easter long weekend for the family. Since we opted for a beach front cottage and there were no vacancies, we brought 2-camp beds for the nanny & the maid servant, as well. 5-adults & 2-kids, aged 4 & 9.
The cottage we rented was offered at PHP4,000/day (roughly around AUD110). The price is usually doubled at this time since it’s Easter. There were 2-double beds, an old rusty refrigerator that you hardly can close, an airconditioner on the wall which is the only new appliance, an alcove that serves like a dressing room & of course, “the bathroom”.
The faucet on the basin is made of PVC & it’s not secured underneath, so it moves when you open/close the tap. There’s the toilet that doesn’t flush at all, the water heater that’s just a decoration on the wall and the shower area that had a big pail filled with water on the side with a dipper which is used to scoop up water from the pail which you can use to flush the toilet!
Not to mention the cockroaches & ants that abound “the bathroom” at night as the wall’s damp due to poor ventilation and there were those cracks on the wall.
We’ve been to a lot of resorts in the Philippines but Beach Placid is the worst ever accomodation we’ve come across with. Beware the owner of this resort doesn’t have an inkling of what she’s doing!
BTW, don’t even try the restaurant and be extra careful with the fixtures, the table I sat in had a rusted nail sticking from it. I told the waiter about it & he suggested that I move to another table. That afternoon I checked again and the nail hasn’t been removed at all!
