It's all about the Beach

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Nov 2015
When we arrived at the pier they sent their van to pick us up. We had reserved a triple room that stank like mold (like old pee) but this cleared up once the AC had been on for a while. This meant it was back each time we turned it off for when we were at meals or at the beach.

On the good side, breakfast is included and can be taken at any time of day. We once slept in late and they agreed to make us the breakfast around lunch time. Quality of the ingredients is good bearing in mind this is an island and made fresh to order each time. Service takes a long time for any dish that's not only toast and eggs so we got used to coming in and ordering then retiring to our room to clean up after the beach, before coming back to eat. Food is reasonably priced and fresh with quantities suitable for sharing. The island does provide a couple of options to eat other things in Santa Fe town but overall quality-price makes it still a good bet to stay in.

After a couple of days, we booked a beach front room - it was smaller and had little room for the extra mattress they added free of charge (we were still paying the price of the triple) so we only put it down on the floor at night. It smelt fine and the bed was good. but the shower had no water pressure at all so we had to fill a bucket if we wanted more water at one time.

The beach is magnificent and well cleaned. Several times a week, a couple of people would spend the day picking up sea weed and cleaning the low-tide refuse. It's the most beautiful view you can imagine and made me think of the Maldives and other white-sand-turquoise-water places - the beach alone saves this place from being only an average gig.

The "resort" caters almost exclusively to locals (we were almost frowned on by some guests for not being local but that's a small price to pay to avoid painful tourists who squat the sun beds from 5am onward).

We booked the snorkeling trip. I would not recommend if you think you will pay the announced price. The price announced at the reception only covers the food and the boat. When you get to destination, you need to pay an entrance fee to the destination island, then they want you to pay for shaded seating for lunch and then there yet another fee for snorkeling and another one for gear rental. In the end, it's double price than what you signed up for. Personally this did not go down well. Also the boat that came was the noisiest I've ever been on. I cannot speak for the snorkeling quality as after they asked for extra money once, I got kind of angry and made sure to clarify all we were going to have to pay (after lots of shouty conversation) and when it was clear we were going to be carried along adding fees along the way I insisted we abort the trip and go back.

On the plus side they served us the fish they had bought for the trip in the restaurant. It was excellent and was supposed to be for 6 people (us plus the two boat men and one of the hotel people) so I insisted the other participants get what was planned.

Overall it's a peaceful budget place if you want to get away from it all without breaking the piggy bank, with a great beach.

My first weekend in the Philippines as a volunteer was spent on Bantayan Island with an overnight stay at Beach Placid Resort with three others. Rooms were affordable, we had two cottages each with a bed for two. The rooms are small but has everything you need including hot water. Wifi was not available in the rooms though.
The staff is nice and while the restaurant is slow to serve your food, the food is really nice.
They'll also arrange a 1-hour full body massage in your room for only P300!!! Cheapest massage I had in the Philippines (although the best was in Bohol).

We were suppose to stay at Beach Placid Resort for 2 nights but tropical storm Lando had us stranded because of a gale warning barring all ferries going to Bantayan Island so we had no choice but to look for a place to stay near Hagnaya Port.
We booked a non-beachfront room but it is actually close to the beach. Our room is spacious enough for the three of us with all the basic things. We had our lunch at their restaurant and my wife liked their adobong pusit. They also arranged our boat ride going to Virgin Island and we were suppose to go to another island (which name I forgot) but because of the high waves (again by Typhoon Lando) we decided not to proceed anymore. Going back to the resort, we rented their bikes for a minimal fee to explore more of downtown Sta. Fe.
We came to Bantayan Island because of the picture perfect beach and it is indeed beautiful. The only drawback is, it's low tide during our stay. Beach line is way too far. I guess it's one good reason to come back hopefully on a good weather.

This place is just 5 minutes from the port of Sta. Fe. The resort has free pick up and send off to and from the port. During our stay they have a free continental breakfast promo so its swell!!!Save some money there. Even if you choose the non beachfront property, beach is just a few yards away. I enjoyed the beach scene early in the morning and at dusk. I did some beach combing and walking from border to border. The only thing I did not not get to enjoy in this place was the swimming because its low tide during daytime when we were there. High tide is late at night. Beachline is too far and wide, its a long walk towards the water to have your swim. When its low tide, water receded way too far onto the sea. We had our swimming done at Ogtong cave area, for 100 pesos entrance fee, we got to swim in the brackish water of the cave. The sea water is closer to the shoreline, clean and clear too, not much corals that I am afraid to step onto for fear of destroying marine life. Tricycle ride minimum is 20 pesos per segment which is high from the mainland minimum of 7 pesos. Going to Bantayan town is 25 pesos tricycle ride.

Room tip: any room will do in this property since its close to the beach

We stayed at Cottage 3 - Beachfront Native for 3 days. Which I thought was nice. Was a bit disappointed though because it was small and the running water in the bathroom was weak. I hope they fix it. But the view was spectacular. The sunset was amazing. And the beach was great. Do try to explore the island and go island hopping. All-in-all it was an awesome experience. I can't wait to go back.

Beach placid is a no-frills, reasonably-priced accomodation in Santa Fe. Room is clean, bathroom is spacious, and airconditioning is satisfactory. The beach front has Boracay-like white powdery sand, soft and cool, even on a hot afternoons. The water is very clear, it's color akin to emerald green to blue as in El Nido, but no corals to step on, so it's like a giant swimming pool. Best to swim in the morning since it's often high tide in the afternoon. Catch the sunrise every morning, too. It's one of the best backdrop for a ripple-less, calm waters. In the dusk, skies turn pink and all beautiful. Overall, we got what we expected.
