The cottage is lovely. It has 2 upstairs bedrooms which are both ensuite. They are very well furnished and the bathrooms are clean and modern. There is a single bedroom downstairs just off the lounge. This is a decent size and is also well kitted out (however it has to share the facilities of the upstairs rooms). The kitchen is very well equipped. It all really feels like a home from home. It's a perfect base for walking; it's close to Linacre Reservoirs and the walks there. The Gate Inn is across the road and serves wonderful food...especially the old fashioned 'proper' chips. The owners Barbara and Allan are very nice and nothing is too much trouble for them. They have certainly put a lot of effort into making sure the cottage is a perfect base or a holiday.
We arrived on christmas eve and stayed until boxing day. It was a perfect christmas in a perfect cottage. The location is stunning, the cottage is spotlessly clean and spacious but warm and cosy. Barbara and Alan are very helpful and friendly. We would recommend this cottage to everyone and cannot wait to visit again
We stayed for three nights while recovering from jet lag . Perfect set up for a family of two adults and two kids especially with the en suites for each of the bedrooms. ( there is a third bedroom but it doesn't have access to a bathroom). The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable and the shower was great.
We had everything we needed and the hosts left out wine , milk and freshly made bake well tarts ( yum ). Unfortunately the wifi was down but I think that will be fixed soon.
There is a nice area outside for kids to run around and a pub across the road if you can't be bothered cooking. The cottage is very warm too.
We would definitely come back.
We stayed in the Swallows when visiting family in Chesterfield. Cutthorpe village has a couple of nice pubs for dinner, and is a good base to visit Chesterfield and the peaks.
The house is great, and the grounds are beautiful - us and the family kids loved it. There are several gardens, one with a pond and fruit trees, one with a cubby house/swings where the kids could play. It also backs onto fields with super friendly cows who came to say hello each day.
We stayed for two weeks in Cuttthorpe/Chesterfield and had a wonderful time. The house is cozy and well appointed. Barbara and Allan were helpful in finding our way around. We took day trips to York, Strattford, Liverpool and Warwick. The setting is quite beautiful and a nice break from London. I recommend the cottage highly!
