Not sure how it has happened, but my rating of the value and sleep quality have been displayed as one out of five, where as I gave them four out of five. Apologies to all concerned, I have asked Tripadvisor to correct it.

This hotel makes a great stopover if walking north. I was one of the first customers of the season and the hotel was still waking up from winter. Yes it is a bit tired in places, but the room I had did everything I wanted it to. I took up the offer of an evening meal which was tasty and hearty, as was the breakfast the following morning. The owners are very hospitable, and good company if you find yourself on your own, as I did. Does exactly what it should, and is well worth considering.

Stayed here as a cheap option on bed and breakfast basis. It is basically a pub with rooms. Our room was in the top floor. It was spacious and very clean, but a little dated. Brewing facilities with generous supplies in the room.
Karen very welcoming and cooked a great breakfast. All cooked fresh. Breakfast was between 730/830 which was a little early but we managed to get there. The pub is situated on a very quiet road. A good base for visiting the area.
Basically you get what you pay for ( not complaining - overall value for money)

We stayed at the Golden Lion whilst walking Offa's Dyke, on arrival we were asked if we wanted a drink from the bar, we did and took this up to our room whilst we showered (lots of hot water and a good powerful shower). Dinner was lovely (all home made by Karen) after Dinner we went into the bar and were lucky it was a jazz night and were even luckier that Rob entertained us on his guitar and boy can he play a guitar!
After a good nights sleep Karen cooked us a lovely breakfast.
We intend to return to the Blue's night!
It was so nice to enjoy such good hospitality and be entertained so excellently! Thank you!

A unique and interesting place with the owner's personalitity expressed well. The cleanliness good, the generous and personal room teamaking goodies excellent, size of room good, plumbing noisy, views and area of the hotel brilliant, walks and interests great, food- breakfasts and home- made dinner meals excellent.
The inflexibility of non- access each day to our room between 10am and 4pm was intolerable for us as we came by public transport and chose a 'hotel' with the idea of being able to rest within the day between our walks and trips. Public transport there is very limited so the owner's inflexibility about having access to our room affected us badly.The label about the hours of non- access were on the back of the b'room door but not in the information provided by them on- line. Maybe this should be rectified.
This was a shame as otherwise Karen and Rob were friendly and helpful
The place is suitable for walkers out the entire day or car owners who have the facility to go somewhere else to fill in the non access hours of the day

You booked bed and breakfast, not bed, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, etc;
I'm glad that you seemed to enjoy it anyway.
