The place had a nice upmarket beach feel. It was very quiet and quite isolated from the crowds of the more popular beach areas. The staff were helpful. Breakfast was standard fair. Dinner was expensive by local standards and nothing special. Views were lovely, especially from the bathroom of room 2!
The rooms in the main house could do with better sound proofing. Beware room 3 :the bathroom is separated from the main foyer by only a timber screen, so people can hear you shower or use the toilet.
Wifi was very slow.
In summary- a small classy beach boutique hotel which is good for relaxing in privacy and isolation for a few days.

Room tip: Not room 3- bathroom does not feel private

Thank you for your review and feedback which we have looked into. We have increased our dinner options and with dinners on the beach or overlooking the lagoon as well as introducing some less expensive Sri Lankan style options. We are also adding a glass window to the room 3 bathroom that can be closed by guests during use if needed. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate your comments as we are constantly looking at how we can improve the experience for our guests.

We stayed in this charming boutique hotel located just north of Nilaveli. Overall this was one of the best places we had stayed in our entire trip to Sri Lanka. The owner/manager greeted us as soon as we arrived with warm hands an hospitality. We spent 4 nights in their room 1 which was a deluxe double. The room had a balcony, which overlooked to beautiful ocean. we were treated a beautiful sunrise every morning. The room facilities were very adequate for any boutique hotel offering complementary snacks and beverages. The bathroom is open, it is not clear exactly the purpose of this. I think perhaps its to allow the air to be flow out. It meant that we had to ensure that the light was off when not using it to prevent moths and flies from coming in, but this only served to ensure we were not wasting electricity.
The grounds of the hotel extends to the beach below, a separate pool area, two water features, a restaurant and direct access to a small estuary. There are a number of developments in the hotel which looks like they are aiming to expand their operations which is great to see.
To walk northward the beach is easily accessibly, but to walk southernly you must cross the estuary. There are many ways to but the most enjoyable method we used was to borrow the Kayak in the hotel and scoot across. The hotel itself is located amongst a village off the beaten rack a bit. Exploring the area really made us feel like we were immersed in a real community.
We ate at the hotel on the first night, I had fresh fish which was fresh and tasty. Hard to beat fresh fish. Breakfast every morning was varied and very filling. We thoroughly enjoyed the food here made locally.
The hotel offer tours, we took one from a local chap who took us to pigeon island. It was an enjoyable trip and our guide was really helpful.
Arguable the best thing about this place was the focus on sustainability and involving the local community around where the hotel was situated. Unlike many of the bigger resorts we stayed at this establishment has made a point of employing local staff from the villages around many of whom have little qualifications, or english skills. The aim is the employ them with the skills to help develop them to ensure they don't get left behind in Sri Lanka's growing tourist industry. This approach to tourism was a welcome refreshing change and really made us think about our impact on a community. It, therefore, came as no surprise, that many of the staff in the around the grounds spoke little english. Rather than being a frustration, this meant that any interaction was an opportunity to help them developed their english and problem solving skills which seemed very worthwhile.
This place may have a few edges to smooth out but I cannot say we encountered such a sustainable, warming approach to hoteling in any of our other travels through Sri Lanka or indeed many other places we have travelled. I would encourage anyone in the area to strongly support what this place is trying to do and definitely stay here.

Thank you so much for your detailed review. We are so very happy that you were really able to appreciate all the things that make C Beyond so special for us. The authentic experience of what is still a fairly quiet beach area with an amazing landscape with the hotel designed to connect to this as much as possible. There are a few small issues we are addressing, as you mentioned in the bathrooms and we are planning to introduce windows that can be closed as needed. Our main staff are from the area and have been with us since we opened and are improving their English skills and service is now running smoothly and many other improvement are constantly being made. We are glad you made the most of the kayaks that are available and we also have bikes that can be used to explore the local area too. Thank you for the great comments on our food and we will pass this on to our chef. We really do appreciate your encouraging feedback.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel (with 7 rooms) is quite isolated. My only suggestion is that there should be some lounge chairs on the beach and some umbrellas. The staff was very willing to bring a plastics lounger to the beach but it wasn’t comfortable. If you want to to go to the beach...you are essentially sitting on the sand. There is one little guy you can sit under. As per the other review, the entrance to the beach is located next to a road where many of the locals come to go to the beach.....along with herds of cows. However, we really enjoyed this scene because it was quite authentic vs some of the other beaches with really loud techno music playing. The rooms were great and the outdoor shower in our villa was fantastic. The staff were really nice as well. It’s definitely a relaxing way to spend a couple of days.

Thank you for your review and we are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, liked your suite room and were well looked after by our staff. We will definitely look at getting some more umbrellas and making the loungers for the beach more comfy.

I came with my sister and parents and we had the guesthouse to ourselves. It was just beautiful, silent, and private with stylish and clean rooms. The staff (especially Don) couldn't have done enough. Get the fresh lobster!
One thing is that there is no alcohol licence on premises. We picked up some beers en route which we drank on our terrace. Worth knowing, but did not detract from the experience!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is a little isolated but that’s what we wanted. You can’t pop to a shop or another hotel, you have to get a tuk tuk. To get to uppaveli where there are some good places to eat / drink Its around 1000rupees 1 way. Walk from nilaveli takes about 45 mins to an hour.

The rooms are beautiful and spacious. We were in the 2 bedroom annex and it was away from main house as there were lots of workmen around re-doing the lagoon water pool. Be careful if you do stay here in annex as you kind of get forgotten. Our room was only cleaned once in the 5 days we were there, if we ate in the room we had to take our plates back over etc. We weren’t too bothered though and would have made more of a deal of it if we were.

Beach is great and simple. It’s just a Sri Lankan retreat so everyone is quite relaxed.

If you do go, please do look out for a puppy that lives on the hotel land. Usually hangs around the 2 extra annex rooms. He’s adorable and a little lonely. Please do give him a chicken sausage if you do see him!

This is not a big hotel, so don’t expect phones in your room or room service menus. It’s simple and quiet. Go with the flow and you’ll have a lovely time.

Watch out for the crow / ravens though - they’ll steal your food from your hand!

Thank you for your review. We did inform you when you made your booking that there would be some renovation work on the main pond going on during your stay and are glad you were able to enjoy your room and the beach. The rooms are usually cleaned twice daily and if you had brought this to the attention of the manager I am sure any shortcomings could have been quickly resolved. Our location is ideal for a quiet getaway and we are glad that you were able to kick back, go with the flow and have a relaxing stay with us.
