If you aim for the beautiful landscape close to river Wye and The Forest of Dean and Simond's Yat you just must visit the Hostelrie at Goodrich. You'll have a warm welcome by the host and hostess Alun and Lisa. We come from Denmark and have stayed here twice. We had the braised shoulder of lamb both times, and it's beautiful meal. Very tasty. You may be able to persuade Alun to play the guitar. We want to go back.

We spent this new years week in Goodrich village in a fab cottage, will write revue about that later.
Well what can I say about the Hostelrie "FANTASIC" Alan his wife and all the staff were fantastic, we spent 4 nights inc New years eve in there, there knowledge about the food they serve was fantastic, the food was fantastic and BOB the Labrador is lovely,
New Year’s Eve what a fantastic night over a Hundred people, buffet was fab, disco was amazing and we met some lovely people.
New years day after a late night (3am) we went back for the 12 PM breakfast brunch Alan put on, just what the doctor ordered.
Good food, welcoming people and will be back.

We came just for a meal in the restaurant. Very friendly landlord and staff and the place lovely. The place was warm with a lovely log fire

The food was nicely presented but only average. It was vastly overpriced. Didn't like the way the table was laid with the knives pointing outwards! just needs a little more attention to detail.

Regardless of the above we had a very nice evening and there was a lovely atmosphere.

We have just returned home from a lovely autumn day in the Forest of Dean. We had no definite plans, except to find a decent pub lunch. The welcome we received in the Hostelrie will be long remembered. The sausage and mash was terrific. Thank you.

Me and my husband had a couple of child free nights away during the Easter break. We decided to try the Hostelrie for an evening meal and do I wish we hadn't bothered! We sat in the lounge area and if it wasnt a battle with the flies it was a dog that kept hovering by the table. I ordered a mozarella, pine nut and sunblushed tomato tarte tatin for starter, my husband a spicy chicken salad. The tart was pine nut free, not mozarella and a slice of bog standard tomato on top. Terribly bitter, looked awful and when I questioned this I got 'the chef sends his apologies!' The salad was out of a bag, chicken plonked on the top and a dollop of a jarred sauce dropped on top. We had the beer battered fish and chips for main and that was just as bad.We filled the tartare sauce pot with the bones I extracted from the fish which totally put me off.
Didnt bother to order a sweet, just got up and walked out.
I did get the feeling that the woman who was serving behind the bar cooked the meal as she mysteriously disappeared as soon as restaurant opened. Not impressed at all.
