Fun and interesting beach. Lots of places to play and explore. Amazing views of how the strength of the ocean can conquer all. The arches that the waves carved out by the sea are stunning. There are tons of fun tide pool areas. The sand is purple in areas. And there is enough space to run and enjoy. Loved our time on this beach.

I first want to thank the folks who share photos of the location for turning down to the beach. I would have missed it if I hadn’t known what to look for, and turning around on Highway 1 is no easy task.

We got there in the late morning, and given the time of year, there was ample parking and not many people there. And, yes, the drive down and up is an adventure. There are some wide turnouts and, well, not so wide ones, when we had to share the road with oncoming traffic. Fortunately, there wasn’t a lot in April.

It is cold there this time of year, but I had no desires to beach. I just wanted to see the glorious rocks, splashing waves and purple sand.

Stunning scenery. Some of the sand dunes have red highlights. The day we went, the wind was whipping the sand across the beach and lifting spray from the wave making the rollers look like they were steaming. We found a sandy inlet on the northern side of the beach with a trail leading up to a hillside overlooking the beach. Photographer’s heaven.

The coastal rocks with the surging surf crahing over it provides many photo possibilities. The arches within the arches are facinating.

If you love rugged parts of the California coast, then Pfeiffer Beach is an excellent choice. It is day use only and access is via a one lane road. This is a scenic beach that is not ideal for swimming or other water activities. You'll find a few surfers and sometime a fisherman. If beach walking in splendid scenery is your desire, Pfeiffer is the beach for you, and don't forget to keep an eye out for purple sand. Access is day use only and there is a fee, $10.
