Staid at one of the rooms across the road. The room was "rustic" but neat, though we were glad there wasn't much traffic, because the rooms don't have much sound proofing.

The restaurant is nice, and the food isn't bad, but pricy.

There is free wireless Internet in the main building. Managed to get a (weak) signal in the room as well.

This place is very cute and I liked the facility/surroundings, but I don't think I'll return based on the value…

Just shy of $200 for the night I expected a bit more… in the tiny room you get a bed, dresser, and small bathroom. The place was VERY clean though, and the staff was very nice. They do provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash in your bathroom, but no body lotion. No ice maker anywhere near the room, so if you need ice you have to cross the highway and go to the bar in the restaurant. Pillows are feather, and no alternative in the room (husband is allergic). You have to go back across the highway to the main office to ask for different pillows since there are no phones in the room. The windows could use some updating since there was a draft in the room and bathroom. We didn’t get very good sleep that night since you could hear the cars on the highway all night… Oh, and there was skunk that sprayed near our room and since the place is drafty, that grotesque smell comes wandering right in too! The skunk isn’t the problem; I realize where I’m at, but the windows should be a bit more efficient at blocking things out.

The restaurant on site is very expensive, and reservations are recommended. The general store has a lot to offer, but pricey. They have decent coffee (there’s no coffee maker in your room), and good breakfast burritos, snacks, etc.

I understand the place is trying to be relaxing, rustic, and quaint, but the price just doesn't make sense to me. If I had to put a price on the room I would say $100/night would be about right since the Adventure Tent Cabins at the Fernwood Resort are $75/night and basically the amenities are the same, except you do get your own bathroom at Big Sur River Inn.

Room Tip: Book one of the Riverside Suites. Quieter, more room and you don’t have to cross the highway as much...

Rustic does not mean run down. No phones, no T.V.s just river, forest, and serenity. From check in to check out the staff are faultless in the preformance of thier tasks. In the restaurant you will probably find Dante hosting/serving/managing. He is perhaps the most skilled professional I have ever met. His genuine desire to make your stay great is only eclipsed by his flawless execution of his tasks. The restaurant has a full full bar and an eclectic beer selection. This is a place to spend a couple of days.

Room Tip: River side rooms are just that. River side, 50' from the river, sweet.

My Husband and I came here as part of our road trip honeymoon from San Francisco to Los Angeles last August. It was really lovely - our room was on the other side of the road, so it was a bit cheaper but we preferred this because it meant we were slightly tucked away. We didn't notice the road at all and spent most of the evening sat with our toes dipped in the stream at the back of the restaurant. It was idyllic and just what we were looking for. The area is pricey over all so this was a great deal - . I would definitely recommend it. The food was great, the staff were really friendly, even when I locked us out of the motel room twice! There is a lovely little gift shop and a convenience store for picking up supplies before going exploring. In a rural, rustic setting I can't imagine what more people would expect. Thank you Big Sur River Inn for making our honeymoon just perfect!

My husband and I decided to overnight at this motel following a very hearty meal (and a few Margueritas) in their charming restaurant. As the restaurant (and parts of the motel I believe) was temporarily closing for a scheduled deep clean the very next morning (breakfast/room service therefore not available) we were given a really great deal for the night of our stay.
Also, as we had Skype calls to make that evening and a Wifi signal was absolutely essential for our stay we were upgraded to one of their enormous riverside suites overlooking the garden (where the signal is strongest) - complete with a comfy king size bed, extra day bed/sofa, full bath with shower over and outside table and chairs. Luckily we were able to get a Wifi signal seated in one of the large armchairs inside the suite - by the door. (There is no signal in the motel chalets on the opposite side of the road apparently).
We'd arrived after dark and there wasn't much to see that evening, however we were really blown away by the stunning location and setting of our riverside suite in the morning! We were also greeted by some charming and rather playful, exotic looking blue birds hopping down from the giant Redwoods onto the handrail of the raised porch/walkway right outside our door. The suite's elevated position with views over the beautiful redwood garden - complete with wooden lounge chairs dotted around and carefully positioned in the shallows of the water gave for a rather idyllic scene! We spent an enjoyable morning lazing around the garden and browsing in the eclectic gift shop next to the restaurant before heading off into the Big Sur again. Definitely going back again!

Room Tip: If you can afford it choose the riverside suites - beautiful setting overlooking the garden and Wifi...
