Booked a birthday break for my other half, which turned into a disaster (his fault !!!), anyway, could not fault the hotel at all. Check in was very smooth, all staff were polite, friendly and courteous, nothing was too much trouble. Room was nice, with usual tea/coffee making facilities, large, flat screen TV, comfy bed and generally pleasant. The main reason for booking was the fact the hotel had gym/pool/sauna etc, which I made use of, despite being there alone. Breakfast was included, which was lovely, plenty of choice, and again, polite, courteous staff serving. You will need a car to get around, although Colchester Town Centre was about 4 miles away, and Colchester Zoo even nearer. There is a large retail park about 2-3 miles away, which houses a good selection of shops, and a large Sainsburys. Highly recommended, and if I do get back with my ex, would love to visit again.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Colchester for two nights for business. I was greeted by a very friendly member of staff, which was greatly appreciated after a long drive. I was even offered glass of wine to bring to my room. The room was comfy enough and very clean. I didnt hear any outside noise throughout the night and had a good nights rest. The bathroom was of a decent size and the shower was powerful and hot. Breakfast was plentiful and had all of the usual options. I had dinner in the restaurant on my second night and the staff again were great. Dinner was tasty, although expensive. I definitely think I will stay here again while working in the area.

I chose this hotel for its swimming pool mainly but was very impressed with the room, reception, breakfast and courteous staff. We paid a fraction of the standard price too for staying midweek I suppose. The room and en suite were spotless and even though the views are underwhelming, you don't feel as though you are in a non-descript motorway hotel like the experience in Travelodges or Premier Inns. We ate a tasty evening meal in the beamed restaurant while watching the Fulham and Chelsea match. The barstaff were extremely helpful in accommodating this request although my husband points out that the piped music was not turned off. I think it added to the warm and cosy ambience of the place though. The staff even brought over our drinks even though we were sitting in the bar area. The health centre is open until late so I was able to indulge in a pre-dinner and pre-breakfast swim and jacuzzi. Breakfast was fantastic. On offer was an excellent range of continental and cooked items presented buffet style, but not overcooked as one sometimes finds. Plenty on offer and you could also ask for a range of made to order items including porridge, fish and waffles. We had perfectly cooked boiled eggs and soldiers (as well as portions of everything else of course!). Finally, the 12pm checkout is the perfect luxury to end a perfectly relaxing night away.

Thank you very much for commenting on your recent stay with us. I was delighted to read that you enjoyed our leisure facilities and managed to take full advantage of them both morning and evening. Our bar and restaurant area is perfect for a romantic meal for two or more casual dinning whilst enjoying high levels of personal service. Our breakfast covers all the usual bases you would expect but in addition we offer a wide range of specials served seven days a week ranging from freshly prepared omelettes to a more hearty porridge to set you up for the day ahead. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

I have stayed here several times over the past ten years and always find that the hotel is a comfortable place to stay. Check in and desk staff are always courteous and efficient. The rooms are always very clean and pleasant - plenty of space and much better than the London hotels that I have to stay in. Bathroom has a modern sink and large bath with shower (though on this occasion the pressure was a little poor), plenty of open hanging space with trouser press, iron and ironing board, tea making facility, large and useful work desk, though there could be more electric power points in this area. Beds are very comfortable though the pillows really let them down - hence the loss of one star. Most noticeable was the flat screen TV HD picture - very, very good compared with my London hotel fuzzy picture and a good interactive menu. Some rooms overlook the main London railway line which can be briefly noisy but the rest of the hotel is very peaceful. Breakfast buffet is very good. Rooms have a couch or two chairs and small table.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the railway line if you are a light sleeper
