Reviewed 5 April 2018

i have just arrived home from an easter weekend at sand le mere and i must say that we where disapointed with this park.

i would certainly re consider if you plan to spend anymore than a weekend there and even more so if you have older children.

so where do i start as i have a long list of issues and things to point out,

# lack of footpaths
we were staying on a new part of the park which has new tarmac roads and some grassed areas but much of it was still dug up mud (very messy) however once we walked through the opening onto the main roadway into the park towards the main complex we were then forced to walk on the road navigating our way and avoiding cars and buses whilst grabbing hold of our children, very dangerous and unplanned for a family pak, why not install footpaths for safety of guests?.

#pool
the pool was extremely cold and the excuse of the park was that there had been a power cut the week previous, if the park is expected to be busy and in full swing for an easter break then why where they not more prepared in the weeks leading upto this, i was told its temperature rises 1 degree a day so im sure a slight power cut didnt affect it that much.

#bird muck on seats
we entered the main complex and intended to have an evening meal in the concert room, however it seems the outdoor furniture was being used inside with bird mess all over them, my 11 year old point blank refused to eat there once she had seen this, why were they not washed before use in a food environment?, disgusting.

my friend did however order some food as we moved to another area but she was not asked if she wanted to eat in or take out, after around 10 minutes a member of staff was walking around shouting out what food she had in her hand, why are the tables not numbered ?, why cant they even give a number to put on your table, very unorganised. anyway the food was brought in a takeaway box, no offer of cuttlery or sauces etc, the staff cant really be bothered.

#Teenage activities
There was a lack of activities for older children other than the arcade which with an endless supply of cash even my kids got bored. There where no activities planned other than the easter egg hunt and the science show on the sunday (which nobody could here as she was not given a microphone). As a child growing up my parents as i do now as a parent chose to holiday at this kind of park rather than allternative holiday desternations because you could almost garenty that there would be plenty for them to do - not at sand le mere, all we got was im bored, a let down.

#Managment
The whole place felt un managed as if nobody was in charge and staff were not motivated.

#Complex toilets
The toilets where too small for the amount of people, we noticed this when to be honest it could of been much busier and i dread to think how they would cope in high season, the hot water at the sinks literally scalded my fingers which could cause serious harm to a child.

#Bingo
We all like a game of bingo and i did note the there was a planned bingo session on saturday at 2pm however at around 8pm each night the concert room held a bingo session which i think was around 5 games plus a flyer which went on for around 1 hour it felt like we had gone to mecca for the evening not on a holiday, yet again children were bored, is this not between 8 and 9pm a peek time for children? If they were not tired already they sure where by now, why not just one quick game between other activities?.

# Bar staff
As i mentioned earlier the park was not as busy as it maybe could be in high session however we where waiting on many acassions 15-20 mins to get served at the bar, the bar staff were un orginased and clearly not trained, especially for the cocktails on offer.

#Health and safety
A few things i noticed where propane gas bottles laid against the the building by side of the swimming pool, just waiting for children to either mess with the gas tap or climb onto them and fall.
On Sunday evening in the concert room i noticed they were guests sat at tables completaly the fire eacape to the side of the stage, again these parks being family otiantated are suposed to be safe, where is the management.

#Entertainment
It appered the entertainment was provided by 3 females of whom seem inexperianced and chose to shout rather than talk down the mikraphone this as the weekend progressed became so annoying like a pearcing noise through my ears you couldnt understand most of what they where saying .
The sunday night enteretainment was a blues brothers tribute but the PA system was so small for the size of the room it was a distissorted sound which spoilt what should of been a good show.

#Arcades
Many of the machines where not wotking, out of order or swollowing coins and not giving credit, yet again who was in charge.

#The camp shop
The shop has a very limited amount of stock and is very small for the size of the park, on my visit i asked the member of staff behind the counter if they sold spirits IE vodka she sent me to the fridge i only found cans no spirits, should a member of staff at least no what they sell?, she then had no idea how to pack a carrier bag and it split before i left the complex, not a good experience.

I can see from my visit that the park is trying to aim at there competitas but it is a long way off that standered, i would suggest that the manegment who ever thay are book a weekend break at a competter park and spend there time soaking up ideas, looking at standerds and how the others do it, bring back this back to there own park.
if they wish to charge the prices they do then it needs to give value for money and it certainly does not !!!!!!!

Dear Ashley H
Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review of our park. We are sorry to hear that your holiday didn’t meet expectations. You did actually visit during peak time and we had a full programme of activities available throughout the week – unfortunately these were not to your liking. For your information, the issue with the pool was actually a broken boiler, not a power cut. We will discuss all your comments with the relevant teams and investigate/resolve as appropriate.
Kind regards
The Sand le Mere team

Hi there, just spent 2 nights here, not impressed at all. Booked a hardstanding motorhome pitch. Arrived and found checkin. It was pouring it down with rain and we just wanted to get dry and settled in to be greeted with because we are 30 mins early we have to pay extra. Due to the adverse weather conditions you could have wavered that extra fee for the sake of 30 mins. We got told it was a dog friendly site but then got told dog only allowed in amusement arcade. Went to use toilet and when i sat on it it moved wasnt secured to floor and when i flushed it the water didnt go down the soil pipe but just flooded out in the cubicle and ran into the next cubicle. Another visit to toilet found me having to sit on toilet flooded in water around my feet. The shower cubicle had glass door missing which meant all my clothes got wet. Meals were terrible. Needless to say its off our visiting list for future.

Booked a week holiday for Easter with the family. Caravan was fine. All very close together. Nowhere to park apart from on the road. Was a bit of a nightmare to park. The clubhouse was incredibly loud. Food was terrible. Place was full of chavs. Language used was disgraceful. Felt unsafe. Only stayed 1 night then came home. Waste of money.

Stayed for 4 nights, just myself & my daughter. We've stayed at quite a few parks across Yorkshire & can say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The caravan looked like it had had a recent refurbishment inside & smelled new & clean. Everywhere across the site was exceptionally clean. All the staff were helpful & friendly. A special mention to the entertainment team, Ash, Beth, Mae & Ellie. All brilliant! They clearly work so hard at putting the entertainment programme together. The kids activities were great & they always performed amazingly on the evening too. Top tip for visits, seek out the fishing lake which is near Tunstall beach cliffs. Lovely area & a few mins walk on to the beach.
