“Lovely winter holiday with the family in the village of Arona”
Reviewed 26 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We very much enjoyed our stay in this traditional house in the historic centre of the small village of Arona. Downstairs the house has a vast, long living room with a large dining table at which we ate together on several evenings, and next to it the kitchen with a large breakfast table (as well as the downstairs bathroom). We were able to breakfast outside as well on a few occasions, or at least soak up some welcome winter sun. Upstairs the bedrooms, upstairs bathroom and another living room have beautiful wooden floors and are tastefully decorated., and the beds were very comfortable. While the house was a pleasant temperature during the day, it did get chilly in the evenings as several of the windows upstairs have no glass (just beautiful wooden shutters). This is probably not usually a problem, but Tenerife had an unusually cold winter this year, with some strong winds and temperatures dropping to 16°C or so at night. The house is equipped with electric heaters so it was simple enough to warm the living-room in the evenings. Despite the colder-than-usual winter, the garden was very pleasant to sit in, under the trees. We also very much enjoyed using the wonderful cavern pool, which is heated. The village itself is quiet but picturesque, with a bank, several bars, a tiny but amazingly well-stocked supermarket, and a very good cafe with excellent local patisserie. It is 20 mins drive at the most from the airport to the house, and it takes a similar time to drive up to Vilaflor (up Mount El Teide), which is also well worth a visit. Trips along the coast up to Santa Cruz, or around the south to the beaches and on to Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava were also easy driving and very enjoyable. All in all we had a very pleasant time with the family on Tenerife.

“Good location in authentic Tenerife house”

Our initial email enquiry and booking were dealt with quickly and upon arrival we were met by the Spanish lady who oversees the house within minutes of arrival. All very efficient.

The house is lovely - very spacious with high beamed ceilings, large double reception area downstairs, large modern kitchen area and upstairs three bedrooms two of which are interconnecting so great for a family with kids. There is also a library/sitting area upstairs which we didn't use but again gives sense of space. The upstairs bathroom is large with a single shower and the downstairs bathroom has a roomy double shower. No bathtubs but that didn't bother us.

The charm of the house is it's authenticity - it's old, dark, can be a little cold during Winter as there is no insulation between ceiling and upstairs floor (and you can also hear conversations between floors). Even though I knew there was a basement pool somewhere within the property it was still a lovely surprise to discover it. You go through the large sliding back door and across the courtyard into an out building. Go down a few steps and you'll be in what feels like a small cavern featuring a semi-heated plunge pool. There is also a large garden (not grass) area at the back.

Don't use too many of the sockets as you may cause a power cut which happened to us, but again this is the charm of an old property.

The village of Arona is ideally situated about 5 minutes up the mountain route that takes you to Teide. It's a very good base to explore the tourist areas of the south and easy to get east and up to Santa Cruz. Our children enjoyed playing in the small playground every morning and we had a coffee in the bar overlooking the playground. There are also good walks in the area and a good selection of walking guides in the house.

If I had to make any criticisms it would only be a small one: lack of basic cleaning products in the house. We had to buy dishwasher tablets, washing powder for the washing machine and multi purpose cleaner. However, there was a good supply of herbs etc in the cupboards.

We had a great time and would definitely recommend this property. If a sofa bed was put in the upstairs sitting room then it would also work well for two families.

“Amazing spacious house in a great location.”
Reviewed 12 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Booked this property last minute. The house situation is perfect if you want to explore inland and the coast but not be in the built up holiday areas. We used the bus in the village to go down to the coast and took very inexpensive taxi rides back. The house itself has been beautifully restored whilst remaining true to its origins and the fully equiped kitchen is just amazing. The house is very very spacious, with large rear garden, and a great cavern pool. I would definitely recommend it, particularly to walkers or cyclists, or just as a general base. The pictures whilst good, do not truelly convey how lovely this property is. I would almost certainly go back. Lupe who met us on arrival and departure is just lovely as was everyone in the Village.

Liked best: loved it all
Liked least: That I didn't have a ladder to climb the wall and nick the oranges and avocados from the neighbouring trees.

Thankyou for your review...
Sweetheart I am so sorry you felt chilly.. I believe the only room with shutters is the bathroom, unfortunately putting in the panes meant getting rid of that great 19th century window system in wood. I think though it might be the case for next winter.. I will need to look into getting 2 sets of keys but to tell you the truth you are the first requested it. Maybe as you had your parents in law who were also doing there own thing.
Re gaps in floors I have not noticed the air circulating but I think I will get some nice rugs from my mum for the winter that's what she suggests and what was done in houses when she was little . Will have to remember to say no bath.
We can only get better through your suggestions as when you live in the country you're just a homey .

“Cool and quirky property in a pretty little town”
Reviewed 1 May 2013 for a stay in April 2013

I would say that the photographs of this house on the site although accurate, don't really do it justice. The house is really very spacious as is the garden so the kids had plenty of space to play. It's stylish, a bit quirky and very comfortable. It definitely exceeded our expectations. The kitchen is well planned and has everything you need should you want to cook. Plenty of towels, including beach towels so you could save a bit of weight in your luggage if you're flying budget but bear in mind, this is an eco villa so think vintage! The town itself is very small but there are a few shops and cafes and it's worth exploring, everyone is very friendly and the views are superb. If you're looking for a cool place to stay off the tourist trail you should definitely consider this.
(A working pool would have got this property an excellent rating rather than very good.)
