On a lovely quiet village road, but close to so many interesting places in and near Limburg (Maastricht, Valkenburg, vineyards, castles, Germany, Belgium, and even a trout farm), amid lovely country surroundings sits Greenwoods Cottage.

Cottage is a bit of a misnomer as the place lives more like a house. There is a large comfortable living room which is lovingly furnished (great books, guides, CD's and DVD's included) and has a view up the road and to the front garden; a full kitchen stocked with cookware, utensils, condiments and matching dishes; a loo and wonderful strong shower separate from each other; and two very private wonderful bedrooms (one in an amazing loft space with skylights). The entire "cottage" is fresh, immaculate, light and bright.

As wonderful as the facilities and location are, the best part was our hosts, the Archers. Living right next door, they provide guests with the perfect balance of helpfulness, graciousness, privacy, solitude and independence. They know the area intimately and can provide expert suggestions for things to do and see according to one's interests. Whether popular places and sights or off the beaten path locales and experiences, lovely villages and towns, fine and casual dining, historic sites and buildings, walking and hiking paths, etc., they know all about it. One could spend months at Greenwoods without seeing and doing everything the Archers know and can advise about.

Finally, not only are Eddie and Ruth Archer supremely generous and knowledgeable hosts, they are charming, good-humored, interesting, multi-lingual and totally delightful human beings.

It was a great gift to be able to stay at Greenwoods Cottage and to be in the company of the Archers.

“Just when I thought it couldn't get any better...”
Reviewed 5 March 2016 for a stay in December 2015

I have been a returning guest of Ruth and Eddy since the days back at their Bed and Breakfast in Amby. For years they have fine tuned and perfected the getaway experience, ensuring everything is at your fingertips but with the privacy to feel like you are in your own world.

When I heard they closed their Amby Greenwoods I was at a lost for a place to retreat to for some rest and relaxation.

So I was sure to visit as soon as their new doors opened just a stonestrow away from Valkenburg and Maastricht.

Right in front of your door is a pathway to hiking trail that will take you to the busy shops and restaurants in Valkenburg, historic caves and open air theater and a couple of sweet restaurants nestled in the woods to get a nice beer to reward you after a good hike.

The accommodation is newly built with everything you need. I love the window in the roof where you can star gaze and have the sun gently wake you up in the morning.

Ruth and Eddy were as welcoming and kind as ever and it felt like not a moment passed since we last were there.

Thank you Ruth and Eddy for a yet another lovely stay!

“Comfort, quiet, relaxation.”
Reviewed 26 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We stayed here in a cold month but our holiday home was warm and snug. It is a comfortable place situated on the edge of the woods on a small country lane. We woke up to a snowy landscape one morning and had a lovely walk through the woods to Valkenburg town which is a sweet little historical town domonated by a castle ruin.

“Excellent and quirky”
Reviewed 10 February 2016 for a stay in December 2015

It may not look much from the outside but this splendid cottage is surprisingly spacious and has been restored with the best of quirky good taste. Eddie and Ruth are ideal landlords, just next door in case anything goes wrong but otherwise unobstrusive and very helpful. What really makes this cottage so exceptional is the location - close to Valkenburg, close to Maastricht, close to Aachen too but in the countryside, a hundred yards from a medieval pilgrimage path and some real and genuine hills, a rarity in the Netherlands!

I was traveling with my daughter and we had a wonderful time in a marvellous little house.
The landlords are very kind and obliging people with an excellent taste for unusual furnishing :))
We felt extremely comfortable. Especially the bed is just perfect to sleep and won´t get up...
but there was a delicious breakfast waiting for us ... ! :))
It is a very advisable accommodation and it´s worth to drive a few km outside of Maastricht !
