Well, arrived by train from Milan, taxi from station down the narrow lanes to fishing village, main square and our chosen hotel.
First impression, small door adjacent to sea, my wife was worried, what have you booked.
Up small stairs above the bar to our room, we wear upgraded top front corner apartment.
What a wonderful surprise, large room, windows overlook small port, and out over wall to ocean.
The room had all the amenities, and was ver comfortable. No noise from the bar or port.
Strolling along the boardwalk, down the cobblestone paths, the food, the wine, the general welcome was unbelievable.
Cinque Terra, no where as good as here.

Room Tip: As they only have the lower 5 rooms, in higher building, the corner front was our pick

Camogli is such an unusual place. The main town is on a harbor with fishing boats coming in and out, children playing ball on the street and men and women visiting and talking about the town activities. If the weather is warm people are in the water. We drove there and parked the car in the upper part of the town and carried a small weekend back down. There is nowhere to park by the hotel because it's a harbor town right on the water. I Tre Merli Locanda is a great place to have breakfast outside watcihng the locals come and go and bring their fishing boats in and go out. A lot of locals come in early to have their coffee. Marianna does make a wonderful cappuccino. The rooms are all on the harbor and just have a wonderful view.

Unusual bed and breakfast with a stunning harbour setting.
We stayed for just one night in very high season.
Due to not doing our homework in regards to how to get to the hotel, we ended up utterly exhausted after lugging our bags through the whole of Camogli because it was impossible to park near the hotel.
This hassle out of the way however, we relaxed into a most enjoyable evening and slept really well with the window wide open, listening to seagulls and fishing boats coming in and going out.
Rooms are very nicely done, was not too keen on the colour scheme but the bathrooms are very luxurious albeit a bit on the small side.
Breakfast right outside at the waters edge is a highlight, the location more so than the food.

There are good points about this property. I won't call it a hotel because it has 5 rooms and the reception (a tiny part of a bar) is only open from 8am to 12 midday and from 5pm to 8pm. Check out is 10.30am. The staff were busy in the bar when we arrived and departed so we had to wait on each occasion.
Breakfast was good and we had it at the harbour-side. As mentioned in other reviews you choose your breakfast time and options the day before from a list (most hot items apart from eggs are extra).
You will get a useful email when you book informing you about this and other aspects such as the lack of access by car. Also of note is the cancellation policy. If you cancel less than 2 weeks before arrival you will be charged for the first night and percentage of the other nights.
The room we had (4) was nice and modern with all conveniences. It had a side view so looked out towards the harbour wall (see picture). There were twin beds and a simple mezzanine level with two mattresses (and very steep ladder up - not suitable for the very young or old).
I Tre Merli is situated at the harbour side, conveniently beside the ferry dock and a number of cafes. It is a ten minute stroll down-hill from the train station. Camogli is a smallish, pleasant, very hilly, town. Many walkers come here as you can hike to Portofino or San Fruttuoso.
We had a pleasant enough stay but I think I could do better elsewhere.

Room Tip: View from front is nicer than the side

This hotel is right at the water's edge, of a tiny harbour. It has a very intimate, personal feel, and the staff is extremely friendly. The room we had was a decent size, a high ceiling, modern amenities, clean and very comfortable. You select your breakfast for the morning, the night before, from a customizable list of breakfast items and drinks. Anything from eggs, to croissants, to yogurt, muesli, coffee, juices, toast and more. It was my favourite part. The breakfast was fantastic. You can also eat your breakfast on one of their outside patio tables, out front, overlooking the quiet, serene harbour. I would highly recommend this hotel. I also highly recommend the town of Camogli itself. It's beautiful!! Postcard perfect. I would love to come back for another visit someday.
