“Peaceful and heavenly”

Heavenly ! Spacious and stunningly designed tent beautifully furnished with a chunky and luxurious stone slab bathroom. Everything was seamless and could not be improved. The food each meal was delicious and original with romantic candle lamps throughout the camp and welcoming campfires. Hot water bottles and tent heaters were turned on whilst you are dining, and quilts added so the short transition from dinner to bed was so comfortable.Total relaxation and recharge in blissful peace after Jaipur's busy couple of days. Family hosts were charming, attentive and personal without being intrusive. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for one night and wished we had longer. The camp is immaculate and the tents supremely comfortable. The bed and shower were excellent as was all facilities around the camp. Sitting, looking out of the water was serene, fascinating and relaxing.
The food was different to all the other places we stayed, being lighter and much more authentic. The dining arrangements were great and food was too plentiful! It was a great touch to light the fires and sit and chat around them. The owners of this enterprise are charm personified. The highlight for me was the nature walk, as we saw numerous birds and some wild boar. I loved being expertly guided around and shown all kinds of wildlife. If you have the chance to come here do so, even though it is off the beaten track it was a highlight of our tour.

We're not great campers so it was with some trepidation that we accepted the recommendation to stay on a campsite. Our doubts disappeared immediately we arrived. What a fabulous place! Not too many tents (I think there are 11) each with its own verandah looking out over the lake. And the tents themselves are breathtaking - the kind of accommodation you would find in a very comfortable hotel and we can honestly say the bed was the most comfortable we slept in during our whole trip. It was lovely to come back to the tent in the evening to find the heaters switched on, rose petals strewn over the bathroom floor and hot water bottles in the bed! We sat round the camp fire for drinks before dinner which was first class, as was the breakfast, both worthy of a top hotel. We went on a fascinating bird-watching walk, at the end of which there was the welcome surprise of drinks and nibbles beside the lake. Our only regret was that we didn't stay long enough to go on the walk round the local village. A truly memorable stay in a remarkable place and a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the cities.

We stayed here for two nights during our latest trip around Rajasthan. It was the highlight of the trip for me. The noise, chaos and beautiful squalor of India is transformed into an oasis of calm, order and simple, natural wonder. These luxury spacious tents all have their own permanent slate built en suite. The decor is as beautiful as the place itself. The view over the lake is stunning. Our welcome was perfect, low key but very positive. The food there was delicious- fine dining al fresco. All food and drinks ( including beer and wine)were included in our package. The chilly morning and evenings of February were overcome with hot water bottles and heaters. There was a fire pit to welcome us to dinner each evening, and as we sat at our tables we each had a mini container of embers set down beside our chair. Every detail was covered. We were specifically asked not to tip staff and our final request to donate to a local charity as we left was politely refused. Such a welcome change in a society that demands cash at every turn.
We joined the village and farm tour and the evening nature walk. Both were fantastic and really made us feel that we had connected with this lovely land and the people who live there. This place is locally owned and run and contributes significantly to its local community in all sorts of practical ways. Would that more of the relatively wealthy landed gentry of India took such a responsible attitude.

On the recommendation of a friend who stayed here in 2009, and our travel agent, we had 2 lovely nights at Chhatra Sagar.
The hosts (Raj and Harsh) were extremely friendly and helpful.
Meals were served on a patio overlooking the lake, which is a birdwatchers paradise.
Rooms are individual 'tents' with a large bathroom with shower, basin, dressing table etc. The walls of the bathroom are slate slabs from the local area.
We did the farm and village tour with Raj. He gave the history of the area, the farming arrangements, the crops, the local skills etc. We also visited a potter, shoemaker and silversmith in the small village nearby.
In the evening Nandi took us on a bird watching walk around the lake area. We saw at least 53 bird species during our time at Chhatra Sagar.
The walk was ended with a small drink bar and G&Ts.
All food, drinks and accommodation were included in the package. Its worth taking a couple of days here.
