This is a camp run by descendants of the original owner. Guests stay in tents atop a dam, overlooking a lake. The tents are really luxury rooms. The food, which is always a surprise, was outstanding. We only stayed one night, but the family took us out for a birding session the first day and to the village the second.

Room Tip: All good. These are tents and the only difference is proximity to the central area.

Well developed ecotourism property. Excellent homemade food. Hospitality so good that big hotel chains can learn how to make guests feel welcome. Not for the regular nitpicking traveler. No TVs, which is great!!! Just starry nightsky and nature.

Room Tip: For fit people, take the rooms on the hilltop. They provide the best views, but take a bit of legwor...

This small tent hotel on a large lake is a wonderful retreat amongst a hectic tour of Rajasthani. The service is superb, the food fresh and spicy, the people warm and welcoming. Evenings by the camp fire, days in natural surroundings with the birds and animals. This takes glamping up a hundred notches! Delightful

Our 2 nights at Chhatra Sagar in October were idyllic and peaceful – and like no other experience we’ve had in India. The tented camp situated on a dam (built by the owners’ great grandfather) overlooks a placid lake surrounded by lush vegetation was a delight from the moment we arrived. The tents are incredibly comfortable, attractively furnished and spacious – and all directly overlook the lake. Sitting outside the tent with evening drinks watching the sun go down or with tea before breakfast in the morning was a wonderful experience. Our hosts, Raj and Harsh were welcoming and shared a variety of information about the past and present of Chhatra Sagar. We enjoyed very much the time spent exploring a small village nearby with Raj and meeting many local inhabitants going about their daily life – the potter, the silversmith, a shepherd spinning wool, ladies picking cotton. We also enjoyed the jeep ride through some of the beautiful surrounding countryside, as well as a bird-spotting walk at dusk. We were surprised just how many different birds we saw thanks to the keen eyes of our guides and some excellent binoculars provided. The meals were delicious and varied local cuisine taken in the open-air dining room also along the water. We were exceptionally well looked after by everyone at Chhatr Sagar. Overall a great experience!

An enchanting spot for relaxation away from the noise and bustle of an indian holiday. The welcome and service couldnt be bettered - it really is as if you are a family friend. The food is excellent, the tents a delight and the view over the lake just lovely. A great walk around the lake with lots of bird life - you are provided with excellent binoculars. We loved it and would recommend without reservation.

Room Tip: All the same
