Right in the heart of downtown, Winfield's is a fine dining establishment with excellent service. The warm bread and garlic is delicious. Don't fill up on this as the food is very well prepared and service very professional.

Went here because it was one of the recommended places on Trip Advisor. Our waitress Lisa was very good. The food was good but not haute cuisine, but hey, this is a beach community! It’s one of the better places on a casual island. I’d recommend it for dinner

Disappointed. All but one in our party of four agree. He ordered the simplest dish, grilled lamb chops. So, that may explain it. A not so gourmet meal at a gourmet price tag. I gave it the two stars only because the wait staff were attentive and the key lime pie desert was spectacular. Better on island options.

Block Island swarms with tourists all summer. They frequent many different kinds of eateries form bars to elegant hotel dining rooms. Something for everybody. Winfoield's is somewhat of an anomaly in that it has no scenic bview, isn't elegant, and yet it serves terrific food that draws a full house. The dining room is dark wood with only one small window. The ceiling is a bit low and the noise level is high. That said, we had a wonderful evening. My Maker's Manhattan was the perfect opener - followed by warm, crusty bread, served with roasted garlic and grated cheese, which the four of us devoured. Seafood chowder - a New England staple - was delish, filled with nice chunks of shellfish. Highly recommended. My wife and I split an entree of perfectly cooked, flaky white Halibut with strips of peppers atop, cheesy au-gratin potatoes and soooo goood. Sauteed peppers and onions complimented the richness of the Sarah took special care of us, as did her assist Carly. Both were very professional but also fun to interact with.
Winfield's is probably one of the more expensive choices on the island, but in my book, it's certainly worth every cent. Reservations are a must unless you enjoy having a few drinks at the bar before being seated. And, no need to be concerned about wardrobe - shorts and a top does it. It's a resort island, after all. The addition of sound-absorbing panels would help with the noise issue, although these day, high noise levels are the norm - something that gives a restaurant its 'buzz' factor.
If you're on the island, drop in and enjoy a great meal.
