Found this place by accident while touring the Cabot Trail. Took as side trip and needed a place to stay, glad we did. Owner is very congenial and informative. Close to where Cabot actually landed but note mentioned in literature on the Cabot Trilogy?? Would highly recommend this property . Limited restaurants is the only draw back, but a trip to Meat Cove about 9 km down the road is a must even with the narrow windy road, which has some grave sections

Room Tip: book ahead this place is going to become popular

Burton's has an amazing view. The rooms are very clean, however super basic. Dated everything within the motel. The best thing about the motel is the sitting area overlooking the sea. Motel didn't offer shampoo, coffee, or anything extra. The people who said the TV just got one channel probably didn't know how to run a satellite system (instructions are provided in the room.) Overpriced as far as what you get.

Room Tip: Room 5 is closest to the sea and furtherest from the office.

Lovely small motel on its own on a hill. We stayed one night and arrived absolutely drenched having been walking in what turned out to be a monsoon. We were quickly given our room and were able to get it nice and cosy which was great considering the horizontal rain outside. Room was spacious and clean and contained everything we needed. There are lovely views over the sea (we saw this the next day when the sun came out) and a couple of benches to sit and enjoy the vista. It was a little expensive but everywhere is booked at this time of year and to be honest I think worth the money for the setting. The owner was v friendly and helpful. Definitely a good stop off the Cabot trail

PROS:
The place has a lovely view of the sea and the surrounding hills, at least on a nice day which is what we had. In early August at least, the sun sets over the water.

The units are clean.

The setting is wonderfully tranquil.

The furnishings are in mostly (see below) good condition even if modest.

The kitchenette is reasonably well kitted-out. A nice touch and unexpected bonus was that in addition to the coffee-maker, coffee and a filter were also provided.

CONS:
The toilet has a commercial-style split seat, no actual seat top. This would be OK in and of itself, although not, IMHO, suitable for the price range. However, this half seat could not be raised, at least we were very concerned that it would break if we tried to overcome the resistance.

There were no bedside tables, thus of course also no bedside lamps.

No facial tissues provided, and the toiletries not to the standard set by the price.

We were fortunate that the other guests were (like ourselves) quiet, and this is probably the norm, but the interior walls are very thin.

The view cannot be enjoyed from inside our room unless one stands up, close to the window. To be fair, there are chairs outside each room, but see the comment below.

Lack of A/C: Yes, it gets cool in the evening. And yes, unlike many motels there is a back window hence the potential of a through breeze. However, when we went to bed we had to close the curtains because we do not wish to put ourselves on view, and this destroyed the ventilation. Room became stuffy and uncomfortable.

COMMENTS: The manager (may be an owner or part-owner, don’t know) will not be to everyone’s taste. We had a feeling of always being watched.

The benches in front of each unit need almost desperately to be replaced / renewed.

Some “rules” are a bit hard to take. You cannot cook shellfish in your kitchenette (what else would you want to cook in this part of the world?).

Although the windows are the sole means of “air conditioning”, you are warned that if you raise them fully, you will be charged for the resulting damage.

WOULD WE STAY AGAIN? Probably not.

WOULD WE RECOMMEND? Honestly, not sure. A property that has positives but is not for everyone.

Hi
Your comment about the toilet..this room is designed for wheelchair use and also the toilet. There is a bed side lamp and table on the left hand side of the bed by the dresser, Kleenex on the night table, coffee is near the coffee maker. As for AC, keep your windows close we have air exchange to keep the room cool and fresh or open your window and get a breath of clean fresh air. Many of our guest over the years have alérgic reaction to shellfish that is why we have cooker for shellfish outside. The staff and manager who is blind go the extra mile to help and may your stay comfortable.

Stayed here for four days, and it was amazing. The room is nice, clean, cozy, with all the amenities you need. But its outside that matters. North of the Cabot Trail, Burton's is situation on a rise that offers an amazing 360 panorama. Surrounded by ocean, mountains and forest there is nothing but beauty all around. My family and I had the time of our lives. The owners are the most wonderful people. We will be going back in a couple years.

PS The name isn't a lie. We got two clear evenings and a cloudy, and the sunset each night was breath taking.
