Lingholm has always been a special place and I used to love visiting here when you could wander through the grounds admiring the amazing collection of rhododendrons. Sadly that's no longer possible but that shouldn't put you off visiting. There's several ways of reaching Lingholm...it has its own jetty on Derwentwater so arriving by boat so one option. If you are following the Lakeside path, you will pass right by Lingholm and of course arriving by car is the most common way. There are two car parks so there is ample space to park and it's only a short walk to the walled guarded and kitchen. There would be even more space to park if some people were more considerate and actually park their car rather than seemingly abandoning it!
The walled garden has matured since last year and although we visited towards the end of September, there was still plenty of colour and interest. We were rather taken aback when several llamas ( or alpacas) appeared!
The Lingholm kitchen offers a variety of hot and cold snacks and meals with sitting in and outside. Dogs are welcome. We thought the menu was shorter this year but there is still plenty of choice. Find a table first, choose your food then order and pay at the counter. Staff are very friendly and efficient and you don't have to wait too long for your food.
Prices are about average for the Lake District. We paid around £30 for a one course ouch with drinks and thought it was very good value for money.
