“A slice of paradise in the heart of Calbourne”

Have just returned from a fabulous week at the Eco lodge within the grounds of the Calbourne Mill. It was a great experience, the accommodation was excellent and very well equipped, everything was spotless.
Living room/kitchen dining area was well thought out and a very bright airy place to sit and chill, we would sit with the balcony doors open a listen to the water running out from the mill and bird calls which was very relaxing.
The bedrooms, being built into the eaves of the roof, had plenty of space to move around and the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms, up and down stairs where clean and looked very new.
A couple of things that the lodge could benefit from would be the addition of somewhere to hang cloths or bathrobe in the bathrooms. Also WIFI reception inside the lodge would be great. Nearest connection was at the Calbourne Mill Café, one benefits of staying at the Goldfinch is that you get free access to the Mill grounds at all times of the day during your stay there.
We enjoyed having the peacocks on our balcony, they are very tame and would feed from your hand and became an almost residential feature of our stay.

As the lodge is situated in a rural setting your own transport is essential, the nearest place to eat being the local pub the Sun inn Calbourne ( which I can hearty recommend) and the nearest shops being in Freshwater some 20 minutes way by car. Local bus No7 runs from the Sun Inn, but you would have to follow the local footpaths across the fields to get there. I wouldn't recommend walking down the main road at all.

All in all, Goldfinch was a wonderful, peaceful place to stay and we were very sad to leave. The staff and everyone connected to the site were most helpful and made our stay there very pleasant.

Hope to return there again.

“Lovely property”

We stayed off-season (a couple and a young baby) and were very impressed with the property. It was like a home from home, only better, with lots of eco features. The setting is lovely and we even had a visit from a peacock on the balcony. The nearest shop is a good few miles away so if you are planning on self-catering, it's best to stock up on your way here. Having said that, you can easily use this as a base and travel to all parts of the isle via car from here.
