“Highlight of our Holiday”
Reviewed 6 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Staying at Villa D'Carik was the highlight of our trip! It is based in a beautiful setting in amongst the local villages rice fields. We were warmly greeted by all the staff on arrival, and they were a great help throughout our stay - no question or request was too hard to solve. One night we also tried Made's banquet meal which was incredible. The villa is up a bit of a path but it is manageable and is actually a really nice way to enter the property. Not far in the opposite direction is a wonderful vegetarian restaurant called Moksa, and also the Warung next door which made a tasty Nasi Campur. We can't wait to come back to Ubud and know that we will definitely stay longer at Villa D'Carik next time. Thank you to Kadek, Nyoman, Made and the rest of the staff for a wonderful stay.

“VIlla d'Carick was everything and more than we expected”

THe villa is beautiful and tastefully decorated. it was so lovely to spend our last 4 days in Bali in the peace and tranquility of rice fields at Sayan. the staff were delightful and made us feel welcome and settled instantly. our group was 3 twenty plus year olds and my partner and I so the villa layout was perfect as we all had our own bedrooms and bathrooms to go to when down time needed but the villa has been designed so well to accommodate all of us together in the main living area. Breakfast every morning was a great way to start and Kadek and the other staff were always helpful when we were making plans and there to greet us on our return. The pool was overused by all of us, particularly after a day in the hustle and bustle of Ubud. we had a great day trip visiting the volcano and seeing Mt. Agung in the morning with sun rise was worth getting up for. Looking forward to returning to this paradise and well done to Andrew and the team.

Thank you for your very positive review of the villa and our staff. I always make sure our staff read all the guests reviews. This feedback I believe goes along way to motivate the staff to maintain their service standards. We hope to host you again, in the near future.

“Ideal location, gorgeous view!”

My wife and I stayed at Villa D'Carik for 7 days and really enjoyed the peace and quiet along with stunning views and a great location.

Many people have commented on the walk to the villa as there is no road access. My wife and I walked to and from the villa to nearby restaurants (including Moksa (an absolute must!) and "Swept Away" at the Samaya Resort, returning in the dark. In all of our walking, day or in the night with just a flashlight, we had no safety concerns whatsoever (other than avoiding the occasional snail). In fact, we felt safer here while out at night than in our hometown.

The location is pretty ideal - we actually loved the scenic walk through the rice fields into Ubud, which took about 15 minutes. We also did some early morning, and late afternoon running through the rice fields. I actually don't really enjoy running, though found myself wanting to run most every day as the surroundings are just so gorgeous! There are a number of concrete walking/scooter paths that meander through a abundance of fields.

Nearby, we found Moksa, a vegan restaurant that's a short walk from the villa and was one of our favorite restaurants in Ubud (and we're not even close to vegan!). Their farm-to-table concept is amazing and the food will amaze the palate; I never knew vegan chocolate cake could taste better than "regular" chocolate cake! They also have an excellent variety of fresh juices. This place is a hidden gem and we really enjoyed being as close as we were. You can also easily walk to Alchemy, Mozaic, as well as the Campuhan Ridge walk.

The villa itself was very nice. My wife and I were looking for a more authentic Balinese villa and this fit the bill. The pool is actually salt water, which was great for my wife as chlorine tends to turn her hair green. One thing you should know is you will get in touch with nature as the bathrooms are indoor/outdoor. Though this didn't bother me at all, my wife was a little on edge (it was the praying mantis that really did it, though I was fascinated by it, totally harmless!). The staff was pleasant and arranged transportation, dinner reservations and were largely out of sight, available whenever needed.

Lastly, depending on the season, you will receive a wake-up call from the local farmers around 6 am. Most mornings they were blowing a very obnoxious horn to scare the birds away. Again, this is part of Bali and if you're getting up early anyways, it's not too disturbing. It did last much of the day from time to time, which was a little disappointing. (At least there were no roosters crowing at 4 am.) That being said, we found the deep tissue and foot massages at the villa to be very relaxing and were the least expensive in all of Ubud (around $6-7 USD per hour - incredible!).

So, if you're looking for a more authentic villa that nestled in the rice fields with amazing mountain views and walking distance to town, this may just be your place.

Thank you for you positive review of the villa and our staff. I am sure other readers will also enjoy your restaurant "finds", close by. I agree the massage prices in the villa, are incredible value. We hope to see you again, when next in Bali.

“A wonderful visit!”
Reviewed 13 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

I and five girlfriends recently stayed at Villa D'Carik, we had a wonderful time! The villa is peaceful, clean and comfortable. The bedrooms have their own bathrooms and air conditioning. The staff at the villa are attentive and unobtrusive. The pool has a lovely view of the rice paddies. Kadek and Made, the manager and cook were extremely helpful in arranging outings, any concerns we had and making us delightful dinners when we didn't want to venture out in the evenings.
My only complaint would be that the villa is off the beaten track, which is great for getting away from the busyness of Ubud, but there's a 500 metre walk from the road and the daylight is quickly gone by 6:30PM, so it was too dark for us to venture out in the evening. We were fine with that but something to consider if you would like to participate in the night life of Ubud.

Dear Heather,

Thank you for the very positive review.
With respect to the access, we remind all our guests, that the staff are happy to assist with your walk to/from the villa, at night. There are torches available for personal use, as well as strong torches which the staff can use, along the track. The drivers can ring ahead, so that you will be met at the drop off point, by one of the staff.

As we have now opened our second villa, Villa DCarik 2, which is 100 metres closer to the pick-up point, we will be installing lighting for the last 120 metres to the villa.

Thanks again,

Andrew

We had an amazing week in Villa D'Carik - the perfect balance of fun, relaxation and culture.
The villa is beautiful and a luxury introduction to the Balinese way of living, with amazing views you could sit and watch all day, even from the cool of the pool!
The staff were super friendly and helpful, there when you needed them and not when you didn't. The food was delicious and they were more than happy to accommodated for the kids - nothing was too much trouble.
