Abbott Mount Cottage
Reviewed 6 June 2010

We had heard a lot about Mount Abbot but were disappointed. The place has a homely feel-- which is nice but was not well maintained. The bathrooms in the ground floor were smelly and even had cigarette butts (so not cleaned from a previous visitor-- ekes!!).

The Mandir on the 1st floor is a nice touch and the views form the rooms on the 1st floor is nice.
The place is powered by invertors which can’t cope if there is a breakdown. Which happened when we were there. No power supply for 24 hours. The invertor ran out in 6 hours and all night and most of next day there was no POWER. Which meant water stooped about 11am. After that u had to fill our own flush tanks with buckets (Not an ideal way to spend a vacation)

Get this--- after the 1st day they had no milk for the kids the next morning. By end of day one Biscuits had run out. And the evening PADOKAs were made of mustard oil as the OIL had finished. Now this doesn’t look like a place equipped to manage 4 families (That’s what they say). We were 2 families and they had 10 days notice for our booking. These are not excusable. Yes power supply can be hit but your ration supply.

The Drive up is tiresome (no one says that..) It’s a scenic drive and for most of the way the roads are good and empty so u really do enjoy the drive except for the driver as you cannot do beyond 35kmph and it’s a long drive up.

Abbott Mount Cottage has been closed down for renovation and will be operational again on April 15, 2011. All the problems that you had faced have been addressed and have been taken care of. The cottage will have professional staff and power back up is being installed.
You would appreciate that it is more than 100 years old, difficult to maintain in the remote area with low pricing. Therefore we have decided to do away with old systems, the look and feel will be the same 'old world' type though. The tariff will go up slightly that would be to keep the place spic and span. Your positive experience is most important for us.

I visited Abbot Mount Cottage with my spouse and daughter ;we spent a couple of days as part of our travelling holiday.AMC can be best described as a generational gift in these times of clinical hospitality. The place itself is a quiet and charming hamlet and the cottage offers the soothing presence of nature's quietness. The staff received us as their own and bid us farewell the way one would with family. We loved the food which seemed like it was made with us in mind. Our stay was restful and i'm sure it will not be long before we visit with our extended family.
Thank you for extending such hospitality and hosting us with so much warmth!
