“Nice apartment, very helpful hosts”
Reviewed 1 December 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The building is a former silk mill and school, so heritage is covered. The apartment was well equipped (actually, the EXACT apartment on the pictures and we found it EXACTLY in that state, so 10 points for perfect honesty and integrity!!) and both Luka and Andrea (who live in the building I think and basically the 2 sons are helping their mother which just felt so warm & friendly) are very nice and helpful (Andrea printed us a map late at night when we wanted to go hiking the next day!). Also, to get to Lecco, we could lend mountain bikes. The apartment was nicely furnished (nice, comfortable couch to read/nap on, the bed was absolutely perfect) with a rain shower (!), a Bosch washing machine (spacious bathroom) and plenty of cupboard space in the bedroom. Unfortunately, it was the hottest summer (38 degrees, hardly cooled down in the evening) in 50 years and the sun shone relentlessly on the apartment and there was no air conditioning nor any fan, so most of the time we were just...HOT. Also, we had the misfortune of sleeping at the back of the apartment, on the side where the parking area was for inhabitants of the flat nextdoor of which some came home after midnight and left early in the morning. The sound of gravel and cars was our wake up alarm every morning. Il Collegio (the college) is actually in Pescate, which is like a suburb to Lecco. As the driveway to the private parking up to the apartment is quite steep and we just were able to fit the car (Saab Sport Estate, so a station car in fact) through the gate, we decided not to use the car while there but only bike. You need the bike to go up to Lecco (about 15 mins), alongside the lake and then some bits on the main road. From Lecco you can take a boat up to other places alongside the Como Lake. For hiking, there are 2 nature parks in the area, of which the Monte Barro is literally just behind the apartment (leave through a side gate, walk uphill, cross a big road and then walk further up the hill and you’re in the park. Perfect! There’s a cute baita (mountain hut with food) that’s only open on Wednesdays in the park, run by volunteers. Super local mountain style. Also fun: I promessi sposi (The Betrothed) by Manzoni (whose house is a museum in Lecco now) is situated in Lecco, and describes looking down from the mountains to Lecco and main character Renzo (silk weaver by trade!) walking from Lecco to Bergamo through the mountains, and also Pescate is mentioned. So reading that while there, is completely in style...And the wifi in the apartment works perfectly! (This may seem an odd compliment but if you have been in Italy you know that is a very positive exception!) Note however that the main road in front of the apartment is like a provincial highway, so if you think you'll be romantically walking to the next village, think again ; )

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?
How easy was key pickup/access to the property? Overall condition of the property

Service
Liked best: The state and style of the apartment. Felt like us (we're urbanites).
Liked least: The fact that there was no fan or airconditioning, which meant open windows, which meant more mosquito bites in the 5 days there than in our entire trip (3 weeks)
