The service is very friendly but slightly chaotic, the rooms are dated c. 1980s - we were in bonsoir. Food was good enough but nothing to write home about. Doesn't meet the standards of other top countryside hotels like lucknam park, Barnsley house or lime wood for example. Needs a major refurb and new management. The house itself is mighty impressive and the grounds are great for walking but not much in the way of flowers. Give it a try but don't expect too much.

1 LOCATION: If you have a sat nav, the hotel is very easy to find. It is located deep in the country side, in a quiet and rural area. 2 BUILDING: What an amazing house. It looks great and it is in very good condition. 3 WELCOME: Good welcome. The service is good. 4 ROOMS: Slight disapointment. I was expecting much better decorated rooms. Once you are in your room, you could be in an average countryside hotel. 5 BATHROOM: Same as for the room 6: DINNER: Very good food. A bit pricey! 7 OVERALL: I would have loved to give this hotel a 5 stars, however; they wanted to charge me £15 for a baby cot...... I don't like this philisophy and I am not expecting this for a top hotel.

We booked this hotel on a Travelzoo deal for £99 B&B and stayed on a Wednesday night so also got 2 for 1 fine dining for £46.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. Reception was not your usual front desk so we walked straight past but were soon directed to the correct location. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady and she took us to our room.

The room was one their House rooms (£288) based in the attic. The room was small but comfortable and acceptable for £99 but definitely not worth £288 as it was in need of re-decoration and the carpet was slightly stained which was a shame as the facilities they provided was very thoughtful. This ranged from CD player with music to the latest magazines as well as the usual items e.g. dressing gowns & slippers etc.....

The dining experience was excellent the staff was very attentive. There was also a good selection for breakfast.

We had a fabulous time and would love to stay again however the full tariff is a little out of our price range especially for one of their bigger rooms. Would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel for a very special occasion. Thank you to all the staff for making a stay so enjoyable!

We went to Stapleford to celebrate Mother's Day so we booked a table for lunch. The food and the ambience were absolutely stunning and we enjoyed the whole experience very much. Only my wife was a bit dissapointed with the dessert as she ordered roasted banana crumble and it was one of them modern "deconstructed" desserts that some chefs like to do, however it didn't say anything on the menu, she would have avoided it if it did! Also the chocolate bread and butter pudding was served with custard on a rather flat plate, it looked beautiful (quite simple though) on the plate but I couldn't eat a lot of the custard. I would prefer a deeper plate where I can put my spoon in.
When we wanted to have our coffees we asked if we could have them in the lounge as after a heavy meal you really want to relax on a confy sofa, however we were told we were not allowed to go in the lounge because they were fully booked for Afternoon teas, despite the fact it was 1pm and they do not start serving them until 2:30pm. We felt quite dissapointed as the price we paid for Mother's day lunch is double the price per person than what you pay for an afternoon tea, so we ended up heading to the Reception area to pay and leave without even enjoying the House and all its wonders.
My wife was very happy though as she got a £30 voucher to spend in the Spa

Room Tip: Lovely food

Had a good time - went with friends for some golf with dinner as well. The building is lovely. The rooms are more than adequate though they committed the cardinal sin of having obviously given the room we were allocated to someone who arrived earlier. They couldn't be bothered to run off a new card but crossed out the original room name.... Symptomatic of staff who follow the standard hotel processes without thinking! They were also unclear (didn't tell us) about the allowance for dinner and tried to charge us extra. After some debate, they waived this excess. Looks like a great place for a conference but not sure |I'd want clay pigeon shooting going on at the same time. Despite all this, we had a great time and they tried hard - needs a little bit more charisma rather than relying on the setting.

Room Tip: Need to be away from the swimming pool. Some rooms do not look over the park/golf course
