“Worth a visit - great for a short golf trip!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2012

Had a good time - went with friends for some golf with dinner as well. The building is lovely. The rooms are more than adequate though they committed the cardinal sin of having obviously given the room we were allocated to someone who arrived earlier. They couldn't be bothered to run off a new card but crossed out the original room name.... Symptomatic of staff who follow the standard hotel processes without thinking! They were also unclear (didn't tell us) about the allowance for dinner and tried to charge us extra. After some debate, they waived this excess. Looks like a great place for a conference but not sure |I'd want clay pigeon shooting going on at the same time. Despite all this, we had a great time and they tried hard - needs a little bit more charisma rather than relying on the setting.

Room Tip: Need to be away from the swimming pool. Some rooms do not look over the park/golf course

We booked a Sunday stay at Stapleford after purchasing a TravelZoo voucher. The building is stunning and having been to/assisted with events at the property previously it was lovely to finally stay the night.

In the past there has been a member of staff meet you outside which didn't happen this time. We waited at reception for a few minutes and then taken to our room by one of the staff. We were shown to our room, named Harebell. Walking in we were welcomed with a cd playing of classical music, which was a nice touch. The room was large and painted with a landscape scene of trees and animals which was individual and querky. We had a view of the gardens and the pool was below. We had forgotten to pack our swimming costumes and didn't think skinny dipping would be appropriate. If staying, definately bring your costume as the pool looked very inviting!

We had also booked an evening meal with our stay so after a drink infront of a roaring fire we we seated in the dining room with the other guests. The food was divine. Breakfast in the morning was also very good. My original order of kippers was unavailalbe due to the chef feeling the fish was unsatisfactory so I had the eggs benedict which was fabulous.

Stuning house, friendly staff, our room and bathroom - large and cosy and the sloe gin in the room warmed us up before retiring to bed. It's a great treat for a loved one on any occassion!

Room Tip: Harebell, it's querky yet stylish!

Stopped by Stapleford on a Sunday Afternoon and they had a Wedding Fair that took over most of the Public Areas of the Hotel. Stayed for afternoon tea and was disappointed by level of service and how the hotel has developed over the last few years. Team friendly but not as sharp as used to be! Food ok but when walking around the gardens obviously lacking in some TLC. No spring planting or thought. A shame as used to LOVE.

We stayed at this hotel for one night on the way to my parents. Everything about this hotel is of an extremely high standard.

On the drive into the hotel you are met by a 'magnificent' country house. The public areas are styled spot on for hanging out. The rooms are comfortable and in keeping with the rest of the hotel.

In the evening we had drinks in the library bar followed by a great three course dinner. The staff were spotted on. Proffesional but also friendly - especially the south african lady (I think!?) that served us.

We will be back - a real treat!

We stayed on a Sunday night after booking through TravelZoo to achieve a very attractive rate including discount on the evening meal. Upon arrival we were cheerily welcomed (despite the atrocious weather outside) and shown to our room. After a few hours relaxing in the pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi (a few more loungers in the area would not go amiss), we retired to the relaxing library bar for a few pre-dinner drinks. The building is fabulous inside and contains many interesting artefacts as well as the traditional hunting trophies adorning the walls. The 3-course evening meal was very tasty, and was followed by a warm brandy in front of the open fire.
Our bedroom was very comfortable although the noise of the pumps to the pool could be heard in the background throughout the night. Breakfast the following morning was one of the best I have consumed, with a wide choice of juices, cereals, continental-style and full English options available.
Upon departure we were offered genuine suggestions of places to visit in the area. All in all, a wonderful Hotel in which to experience friendly and yet traditional service, all in a wonderful setting.
I would go back again anytime, maybe next time I'll arrive in a private helicopter and book some of the country persuits (lottery winnings permitting)

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool and could hear the pumps at night
