we did a food and wine tour in May 2018 i will start off by saying this was a wonderful tour, it gave great insight into maltese culture and food history and tradition. instead of listing all the things we did, as there were about 5 stops throughout the day, i just want you to know christian, the guy in charge is great, and i believe trying to do great things for maltese food by encouraging farmers and food creators to use to use traditional methods. the places we stopped had excellent products and christian who was also our guide had insights into maltese culture that we never would have gotten to learn about without this tour. i encourage you to try it if you are at all interested in food, traditions, or culture.

This is a special tour which delivers you to the doorstep of small private enterprises producing artisan food. it was quite relaxed and easy going physically and apart from the stunning countryside you pass on the way, we met some lovely people who work hard to produce Maltese artisan products be it bread, olive oil, wine, cheese or honey. You learn about the way of life for these producers and what they are up against on a small island like Malta, and you are treated to a samples of the delicious results of their hard work. Our group of 8 was collected in an air-conditioned minibus from our hotel and we were led by a guide who knew well the people we were to meet and even the animals were all familiar to him as he called them by name, be it the goat, cats, dogs, horse and cows. The first venue was a bakery making artisan bread and biscuits which we were delighted to sample. We had a chance to purchase water for the rest of the day here too, as by this time it was getting hot. We wore sandals or lace up shoes and were slathered in sunscreen, ready for the visit to the interesting vineyard and fascinating yet charming typical cheese producing farm stead where we met truly hard working people and animals of the land. The final destination, an olive grove, was like an oasis where we enjoyed a delicious home produced Mediterranean lunch using the bread we'd seen being baked earlier, the olive oil they had produced, the wine from the vineyard we had visited and cheese from the farmstead. The olive grove also produced honey and it was a nice surprise to finish up dousing more of the lovely bread with olive oil and honey - it went down a treat and in front of a most spectacular view. We were in Malta for 1 week and it was one of my favourite highlights, a pleasurable relaxed day that I will always remember.

We had a great experience, first visiting a typical Maltese Bakery in Rabat & tasted delicious Maltese bread & biscuits.
Next stop was the Cortis Vineyards in Rabat where the process of growing & caring for the grapes was explained.
On to Mario & Graces farm next, Mario obviously loves his animals & what he does. We saw the milking parlour for the sheep & goats, the sheeps milk is kept separate for cheese making. All the animals were kept indoors and food is brought in to them as its too hot for them outside.
Grace then gave us the chance to sample her excellent cheeses and talked us through the process.
Lastly we arrived at Charlie & Bella's Olive Grove where we were treated to an excellent lunch and tour of the olive grove.

Great experience of visiting Malta and learning about local activities and traditions. Very knowledgeable tour operators and friendly, hard working eco farmers included in the network. Excellent local food choices served along the tour. Would be great to have more tours like this one available in Malta. Thank you Christian, and many thanks to all the farmers and the bakers: Brian, Mark, Grace, Bella and Charlie. Hope to see you again!!!
