It may sound like we’re referring to the delightful owner of this restaurant (more on that, later!), but no — it’s food that first comes to mind. We’ve driven by this place a few times while frequenting BluPort, the adjacent shopping mall, but after almost a month in Sam Roi Yod, we were ready for something of a splurge. As a previous reviewer mentioned, “who cares about the prices?” Indeed. When the ingredients are so meticulously sourced and fresh, hard to go wrong. But add to those the expertise of chef and his staff and you’re in for a treat. The burrata app was sublime, and stood out for its variety of tomatoes, thinly sliced olives and (of course) the creaminess of the cheese itself. The foie gras app was similar in its abundance (!) — and loved the perfect pairing of accompanying fruits/sauce. My husband loved his wagyu bolognese (“not too sweet” the way some are) and my gnocci was ridiculous (me, rhapsodizing). We had “no room” for dessert, but of course ordered the hazelnut-chocolate concoction that was fabulous (1/2 of which remains in the fridge for lunch, today). The sommelier was spot-on, suggesting a (very reasonable) Chianti Classico when the house red (a great, Tuscan varietal) was unavailable. We had the pleasure of a wide-ranging conversation with chef and owner, Andreas, towards the end of our meal, wherein we told him that his place more than measures up to 2 other “favorite Italian places” we love in (much, much larger) SE Asian cities. All to say, we are very happy such a place exists here so close to one of our neighborhoods — and we’ll surely be back at earliest convenience.
