This is such a memorable place to camp! We pitched our own tent in the meadow camping section. The owners were so accomdating with showing us around and providing us with a map of the countryside and surrounding walking routes. We were able to rent a fire pit with BBQ gauze from the owners!
The weather was fab, although still chilly at night as you are quite literally at the Top of the Woods! The toilet and shower facilities were immaculate and never had to queue.
The friendly chickens and pigs were a bonus!
Highly recommend for couples looking to escape from the city for a quiet weekend away!
Loved every minute and will recommend to friends!
Niamh x

We had such a refreshing and relaxing stay at Top of the Woods. Soo and Jon were so friendly and helpful with everything, and have created a gem for city-dwellers to retreat to.

Our children loved the wheelbarrow rides, camp fires and the beautiful meadow. My partner just enjoyed being away from it all. And I loved the outdoor kitchen, camp fires and the starry skies. We've all taken a bit of the Penrallt magic bk with us.

Oh, and how could I not mention meeting the pigs! Myrtle, Harry and Gertrude are beyond adorable and it was really special to get up close and watch them run around in their part of the garden. Thank you, Jon, for taking the time. My daughter wants one now!

A very memorable stay thanks to the fantastic location, facilities and hospitality. Thank you! We really hope to be back next year.

Everything was okay apart from the owners dog attacking our dog was a very scary moment, we was told not to let our dog off the lead until we were well in the woods as we were walking down to the woods a dog came running from the farm unattended and we thought he run away we could here a man whistling so we waited with Dylan until johns father arrived the dog was fine and then jut switched, I had to kick there dog off ours and my partner asking the man to get there dog my dog was on a lead and trying to get away he won't fight back luckily as he is a big dog and wouldn't have blamed him if he did! Johns father was telling us how he has told his son about Dylan before that he can be like that and that jon moans about his twos dogs etc when the women who was with jons father arrived she said she walked Dylan with no problem never done this before but the next day told us they haven't been since jon and sues wedding and they live in reading so how can she regularly walk Dylan they could have apologised instead of going to personal! She makes out Dylan can't roam around for other reason but it's because he switches without warning my dog is very well trained and behaved and would listen to me at all times unless he's swimming never wants to get out the water! I wouldn't use the cooking equipment full of dirty grease it's a shame because the rest was amazing! Would have been nice for the owners to have seen if mason our dog was okay! Also was told not to let dog on the bed which we never do anyway at home then got hairy bedding to put on ourselves!

If you are looking for a campsite where you are surrounded by amazing views, can see the stars on a clear night (and we did!), technology and noise is far away, excellent and clean facilities, the tents are not on top of each other and very welcoming hosts, then make sure you pay Top of the Woods a visit.
We just returned from 5 nights of camping in the Meadow (in our own tent) and had a wonderful experience despite not always sunny weather (to be expected!). The Meadow is a large area with a maximum of 20 tents (I think) around the edge of a field with an amazing area of tall grass in the middle for the kids to run around in as well as a "secret garden" area. Toilet and washing facilities were very clean and looked new and also close to the Meadow so useful when coming with children.
We had the pleasure of tasting some pizzas on one of the evenings (a wood fired oven pizza company come to the site), a yoga lesson one morning and a bushcraft walk with a local expert which was very informative and fun for our son (learnt about trees, plants and how to start a fire with flint and steel!).
The communal area (Dutch Barn) was a good touch and somewhere we could play cards, chat to other campers as well as a place where the children could play with the hay bales and follow the resident chickens! Also, the owners provide a map of a walk that you can do around the site which passes by an amazing waterfall!
Jon and Soo were very helpful with any questions we had, welcoming and even stored some cake for our son as it was his birthday!
All in all, a place we would come back to so we can visit the stunning surroundings while getting back to nature as well as meeting many like minded people!

Room Tip: Camping in the Meadow with your own tent is nearest the washing/toilet facilities

First time camping and won't be the last! The bell tents were lovely, clean, warm and well equipped with cutlery, cool box, one basket of fire wood with our own picnic bench & fire.
The area is beautiful, definitely recommend trying to follow their map to the secret waterfall...we got lost but still a lovely route and my two boys loved the waterfall and the swing and the muddy walk and walking through a river to get there.
