I have just returned from a 9 night break in Derryreel Cottage.
This is a wonderfully spacious house and although I was a solo traveller it can comfortably accommodate 7 people. The weather was cold and stormy at times but the house was really cosy and warm thanks to the geothermal underfloor heating system which gives constant heat throughout the house as well as constant hot water. It was lovely to return to a warm house after a day spent hill walking. The shower too was excellent with great pressure. The house is very well equipped with all you could need. There is even a library of books for those of you who like to read.
One of the bedrooms has distant views of Tory Island and you can see the Tory lighthouse lit up at night.
The house is in a lovely quiet private location about 5 minutes drive in off the main N56 road mid way between Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh. It is also in a great location to explore the Glenveagh National Park, about 30 mins drive away (don't miss this, it is incredibly beautiful), Mount Errigal, Muckish Mountain and Gweedore to name just a few. Not to mention Horn Head in Dunfanaghy with its stunning views and the many gorgeous local beaches.
The owners John and Anita are very friendly and helpful and will give you tips about the area. They also left me a very generous supply of coal, logs, sticks etc. for the fire.
All in all I had a lovely time at this house and would highly recommend it if like me you love peace and quiet and all the beauty that Donegal has to offer nearby.
