Honeymoon Trip

Review of Esplanade Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Jan 2021
Stayed here in 2017 it was a dry year and very hot. Like most Europe it doesn't have a/c so we were warm. The bed was a bit hard, but the bathroom was awesome. The front desk was super helpful and the distance to some amazing restaurants cant be beat.

Stayed in this hotel on 3 separate occasions and we loved it. Clean rooms, nice staff, breakfast was always top notch and quiet at night. Never had dinner but the restaurant was always full and had a few bites in the bar area, no complaints.

I have stayed here 3 times in the month of February over the last 10 years. The rooms are dated but clean, although the rooms facing the seafront get a great view. The bathrooms were old in design, clean and functional for our needs.

Breakfast is served on a lower floor than ground level with all the buffett style trimmings, although not a large variety.

We visited one year during half term and stuggled to find parking. The small area around back was very limited, certainly not enough for minimal guests, let alone a completely full hotel. I didn't see any CCTV and it was not well lit and spaces were not lined out. The alternative would be to park in the street parking out front but this would need to be moved in the morning by 8/9am due to parking restrictions.

The staff are lovely and helpful, they were only too happy to help with additional information.

Room tip: The best rooms are sea front ones

Stayed at the hotel for the Wales Six Nations match with the Gaerwen Reds who go every year which says it all, arrived late due to the weather which affected the ferry, no problem, great welcome. Nice character hotel with very clean spacious rooms, tv & tea making facilities in the room. Outstanding cooked breakfast with a great choice, staff always helpful and friendly. 10 minute walk along the beach front to the train station followed by a 30 minute train ride to the Aviva Stadium’s entrance. Really good bars and restaurants along the beach front also. Went to Bray’s high street on Sunday afternoon / evening and had a great time. Will return.

The hotel is a beautiful vintage hotel so don't expect new fixtures in the room. It was clean and comfortable. It was fine for our needs, and we travel frequently. Staff could have been more friendly. The best thing about the hotel is it's location. Right in the middle of the beach and close to restaurants, Bray Head and walk to Greystones.

Every year we stay here for a couple of nights. My family love this hotel. My kids feel they’re on an adventure when they stay here. The beach is seconds away and in the summer they have amusements for all ages. The arcade is down the road and bray town has plenty of pubs and variety of grub. The hotel room is basic but I’ve stayed here so many times I can’t complain about the high standard of cleanliness.

I hope it’s vintage feel never changes. We need to preserve these old hotels as much as we can.

The hotel has no air conditioning but with Irelands weather you would rarely need it.
