This is a super, fun trip. Interesting and amusing commentary interspersed with traditional fiddle and accordian music - the captain "sings" too! Boat sails really close to resting seals so one gets a good view. The children are kept quietly entertained while the adults admire the seals. Coffee and tea ( laced with rum) are served with lots of chocolate biscuits. The crew is great - full of old Irish charm. This trip is extremely good value and I would urge any holiday maker in the Kenmare area to book for this experience.

I was visiting Kenmare with 11 Belgian friends (I'm originally from Kenmare) and of course we took the Seafari trip so that I could show them how beautiful Kenmare Bay is. The trip with Ray and his staff is just brilliant. They are so warm and friendly with everybody, their knowledge of Kenmare Bay and its surroundings is astounding and, of course, their sense of humour is only the best. Watching the seals was a delightful experience and our coffee and "tipple" on the way back was just a perfect finish to the trip. For me, Seafari is the best attraction in Kenmare. Thanks Ray and staff!

The cruise started at 11.30am and we had made a booking the previous day in the tourist office in Kenmare town. The crew hand called out the bookings to the top of the queue and we boarded (that was great!). The cost wasn't much (can't exactly remember) but we were out for a good three hours so money well spent. The rugs provided (as many as we wanted) kept us all warm at the back of the boat and the entertainment - fiddle player, information from skipper and complimentary coffee/squash/biscuits/rum on the way back were a delight.

The crew hands came around with information boards about what we should expect to see and they went to every effort to make sure each family/group were personally informed about the sites they were going to see.

The running commentary from the skipper was a joy and his humour seemed to cross all cultures as he had learnt rudimentary French, Spanish, German etc to make sure all comers were included.

Do I have a negative comment to make about the trip - not one. The weather was superb the day we did the tour and it was Kerry in mid August so we were not expecting that ;-) We made connections with the crewhand (who was from Bristol and his grandparents lived 10 miles from where we are living in Oxford) so all in all a thoroughly enjoyable day in Kenmare.

I also recommend the open crab sandwich in Truffle Pig in Kenmare town as a post trip meal. Superb.

We loved the afternoon, the kids had great fun and all that before we saw the seals. Worth doing especially if you collect the two for one vouchers.

We were really looking forward to this but it was very disappointing on a few levels. We were told that sailing would be 3pm sharp (due to the tides) but we were left sitting on the boat for 50 minutes, without an explanation. Even when captain Ray finally boarded, nothing was said. Now please don't think that this means that Ray was shy, unassuming.... - no, as this guy really likes the sound of this own voice, which we experienced until we got back to shore at 6.40pm!!!Yes that was three and a half hours!!!
Now I do appreciate that information needs to be given on a tour such as this but Ray constant talking was very annoying. He did give some interesting facts but a lot of his information was totally incorrect (dates, population numbers, simple geographic facts...) He also bombarded us with useless information which was not needed al all.
I also appreciate that once in the close proximity of the seals, the spectators need to be clam, and quiet but Ray treated us all like we had no brain/common sense of our own - it was ridiculous. He droned on and on about how silent we all needed to be but then a member of the crew sand a song down the microphone! I felt so sorry for those seals...
Throughout the tour there was a also a recorded voice over being played so it was just too much.
We asked if we could buy some teas at one stage from the shop but were told that the free teas would be given out in an hour or so (!) The whole thing was regimented and controlled by a very self indulgent captain who I feel believes he should be on stage playing to a packed house!
We had dinner reservations for 7pm and luckily we were able to contact the restaurant to cancel and re book for 9pm - the restaurant informed us that this happens a lot when customers are on Sea Safari so be aware of this - three and a half hours!!
I do believe that the seals were happy enough to see us visiting, but I did feel a little jealous that they got to stay on the island where as we had to endure the return journey with Captain Ray going on and on and on........
I believe there is another company in Kenmare that do a similar trip, but an hour and half long (perfect amount of time) called Star Of Kenmare.
