“Beara Peninsula Diamond”

My partner (now fiancé, courtesy of Dursey Island!) Clare & I booked Mag & Eugene's cottage very last minute, using the usual Tripadvisor intuition based on the property description. We stayed there for 4 nights, absolutely loved it and plan to return.

The cottage location is second to none, perched as it is on the edge of the rugged Beara Peninsula mountains, lifted just enough to afford stunning vistas but not too much as to make it inaccessible. This was our first visit to this proud corner of Co Kerry / Co Cork and suffice to to say that we were amazed at the range of scenery and experiences on offer, including the winding Ring of Beara coastal route, Dursey Island, Dorreen Gardens, Kenmare Bay and Gleninchaquin Park.

Mag & Eugene have set out the space as a classic chalet, complete with deep chairs / couch, a huge open hearth, wooden beams / floors, a very well-appointed kitchen, power shower, velux windows and extremely comfortable bedrooms. From the moment we arrived, the two of us felt the best feeling possible - that we were at a home away from home, where we could instantly relax and take a load off in between excursions.

Eugene was our host on this visit - his open hospitality, local knowledge and genuine interest helped us immeasurably in our pursuit of the perfect getaway. Both of us definitely left with a much more detailed knowledge of sheep & sheep dogs, a real treat!

“Wonderful Experience for First Visit in Ireland - Eskadour Cottage”

Lovely one hundred year old stone cottage situated on the side of a hill overlooking water. Part of a working sheep farm, you can visit with sheep, deer, or the many rabbits and birds that inhabit the place. Owners Mag and Eugene McCarthy are more than helpful advising us on food and recreational choices. They and dogs, Sweep, Lassie, and Titch will make you feel very welcome. The cottage is private with anything you could want including a lovely fireplace. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in this area and would LOVE to come back. Eugene even let me feed two baby lambs their bottles!
