We have stayed at Swinton Park 3 times now, most recently this April. From the moment you arrive you know this hotel is very special. The staff are efficient and helpful but always relaxed and friendly, and the restaurant staff are very well trained and knowledgeable. The building itself is simply beautiful, with so many fascinating architectural features. We have stayed in three different rooms (Bradford, Fountains Abbey and Burton Agnes) and all were excellent, each with its own individual character. We particularly liked Bradford and Burton Agnes, which are corner rooms with lovely views over the grounds and the river. Everything is provided for, from Molton Brown toiletries in the beatiful bathrooms to a small decanter of gin and whisky. (A gin and tonic whilst soaking in the bath is a wonderful way to start your evening here). The little jacuzzi-spa can be pre-booked for your private use for an hour, at no extra cost and we found this a lovely way to unwind after our journey or a day out. Spa treatments are also very good and even my husband thoroughly enjoyed his hot and cold stone massage. The restaurant is, for us, a major part of any stay at Swinton Park. The food is an absolute delight and the staff cannot be faulted. From pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room, the meal itself and coffee and petit-fours back in the drawing room, it is a wonderful experience. Of course a hotel like this does not come cheap, but there are often special offers which can make a stay very good value indeed. We shall be back next time we have something to celebrate!

We stayed at Swinton Park for two nights in May 2012. Simply the best hotel i have ever stayed in for so many reasons. Primarily the staff who are faultless and the relaxed luxury of the hotel. Already booked to go back for our 25th Anniversary. Although the prices are high i think they do represent good value for money. The food is exquisite and the quality of rooms and special touches are worth every penny. I cant wait to go back. Truly not one thing i would change.

From the manager of the spa rearranging things so we could have some treatments on our day of arrival to the quality of the food, everything was perfect. We were in a Baron room "whitby" and it was an excellent size with a high quality bathroom. Loved the little touches such as the room tidied and the bed turned down on a night to the complimentary gin and whisky.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in we will be back!

My wife and I have just returned from 4 nights at Swinton Park and we had the most fabulous time. If you are looking to be pampered in a luxurious, 5 star quality, old english castle hotel with lots of activities for him and her... oh and michelin star level food, then book a stay now.

Staff
From the moment we arrived the staff were warm, friendly, fun and extremely attentive... it is rare to find such happy and helpful staff and they are a credit to the hotel. All of them had a big grin on their faces and nothing was too much for them. They made the stay very special.

Booking
Booking was so easy and simple it made me look forward to the trip even more, i found the hotel through a google search and then called up. The lady that took the booking (Cici i think her name was) gave us an upgrade and was so helpful booking spa treatments for my wife and explaining the various activities to me that I knew i had made a good choice before i arrived. Such a refreshing change from the usual grumpy receptionist that seem to be employed by large hotels! When we arrived the reception staff were fabulous and really set the tone for the whole holiday (valet parking, cases carried to the room, attentive check in staff etc)

Room
We stayed in the Castle Howard room and it was just perfect. It has a lovely view over the river, where we watched the geese, pheasants, ducks, rabbits and the estate herds of deer. The bed was huge and very comfortable, huge bathroom. Some small but excellent touches that make you realise you are staying somewhere special, the Molton Brown toiletries, the complimentory Gin and Whisky decanters, the luxury fixtures and fittings. I hear there is a Turret room, so maybe next time!

Spa
My wife had 2 or 3 treatments a day and she rated them all very highly, and she should know! I even had a couple and wow, i can understand what all the fuss is about now! The jacuzzi spa is small but it's a nice touch to have it to yourself. A good tip is to book your treatments and daily spa time when you book your holiday and before you arrive (Cici did this for me). Staff in the spa were fab.

Food and Drink
We dined at Samuels restaurant twice and the bar/brasserie once. Samuels should have a star. It is fabulous and is reasonably priced for this level of food. I had the tasting menu on the last night and it was excellent. It's a beautiful dining room and the ideal venue to dress up for. Tip - ladies bring a dress and men shirt, slacks and jacket. Bar area is ideal for a relaxed drink and bite to eat. Again, the staff just added to the excellence of the experience.

Activities.
I did the Hawk Walk with Sophie and Aries (the Hawk) and i havent had such an interesting hour of conversation and a fun stroll for a long time. Thankyou Sophie and good luck with all of the chicks you are rearing!. This activity is a must for the men! while your wife is enjoying a spa treatment then book yourself a treat and spend an hour learning and flying a bird of prey. I got some great photos too.

Unfortunately fishing wasnt available on the river in the grounds, which was disappointing as it looked an interesting river, but i was pointed in the direction of the estuary and I had a good few hours relaxing and catching rainbow trout by fly. The locals were very friendly and if you like to get a line wet then my tip is to go after 4pm where the cost is £15 rather than the £25 for the day. I reminisced about the one that got away over a pint of Theakstens at the Old Black Swan afterwards.

We didnt go to the cookery school but from the look of them, the resident chef teacher is great fun and they were having a lot of fun in there! so maybe next time!

In Summary
We feel so happy to have found Swinton Park and to have had such a relaxing and enjoyable few days away. If you are looking for some of that long lost old English luxury and charm and want to be pampered then book a stay here. I'll be recommending Swinton Park to my closest friends.

We will be back soon.

We have been staying here since 2002, not long after Swinton Park opened for business. I can honestly say that - apart from a little dip about 5 years ago - we have enjoyed every visit we have made. High standards and attention to detail throughout, this is certainly one of Britain's finest hotels. It is effectively a destination in its own right, and we will certainly look forward to going back soon!
