We were 10 adults and 3 you f children. The house was amazing for us. A great space with a fantastic view and superb location. The house is very well equipped and the owner had put beautiful flowers around the property. We were also welcomed with champagne and an Easter egg, these little touches all made this house like a home. We would definately reccomend it and hope to go back at some point. Thanks for everything!
Stayed here 27-30 March as a group of 15 for my sister's hen party. It was so exciting when we first arrived and looked around the house which is really beautiful and the views are especially stunning. The pictures don't do it justice - you have to see it!
The house has absolutely everying you need, pots, pans, lots of wine glasses, champagne flutes... and I especially liked the vintage tea cups and saucers which we made use of at breakfast! The champagne on arrival and fresh daffodils around the house were also appreciated and a nice touch. We hired a hot tub for the weekend and it was lovely looking out over the hills drinking Prosecco!
I read a previous comment from someone who mentioned that the owner's son turned up at the house unannounced. I can certainly say that we had a fantastic weekend and I hope no one takes that comment into account - you should DEFINITELY stay here!!
I'll definitely consider HIghfield again in the future and will recommend to friends and family if they are looking to go away as a group!

16 of us stayed at Highfield and it was a perfect location for my 30th birthday! Great views, living area and kitchen for such a large group. Owner is extremely helpful and my deposit was paid back within 5 days of leaving the place so very impressed.
Nice touches included in the stay like a bottle of bubbly and celebration chocolates.
Would stay again and recommend to anyone!
The house is beautiful. A stunning surrounding and an enviable location. However, things took a turn for the worse when the owners son let himself into the house, whilst intoxicated and got into one of the beds. The owner wasn't particularly bothered and couldn't have cared less. DO NOT STAY HERE.
The police were called. It ruined the entire weekend. I dread to think what would have happened if children had been sleep in the room.
Existing reviews were so positive, I could scarcely believe this place would live up to them,,,
There is certainly much to enjoy. The old parts of the house are really charming. The open fires in the snug and lounge were highlights. I am always content sitting with loved ones feeling toasty warm. The children loved the stepped garden and the snooker room and the under floor heating was great when coming in from the hot tub. The bedrooms were all of a good size. The oven delivered two perfect roast dinners and there was room for us all to sit at the table.
Highfield is not in the countryside but it feels private. Matlock is minutes away and we enjoyed a lovely walk in Lumsdale direct from the front door.
Minor suggestions for an improved experience:
The dishwasher is ageing: the racks fall off their runners and the seal fell away. We could have really done with two of them. We had a strong foodie element to our stay so an awful lot of time was spent washing up.
More light outside the front door at night, please.
