I stayed overnight on a Saturday & found my welcome to be warm & my room clean & cosy. Breakfast was very good quality & reasonably priced & the staff were very helpful & friendly. Will definitely visit again.

We struggled to get a table for 4 at short notice on a busy Saturday night when everyone seemed to be filling the pubs after dry January .

The Roebuck was able to fit us in and it was a very reasonable meal with a few choice ales .

Nacho starters ( v hot ) and a burger and a couple of pints was very enjoyable .

Top tip if you are 6ft or over - watch your head at the bar ...

A family lunch turned into a real event with great staff, superb food and a lovely log fire. The staff paid every attention to detail and even modified the meals for us.
It looks slightly austere standing on its own on a main road but it is a gem. I strongly recommend it!

From the outside the Roebuck Inn has Stax of appeal, however this is greatly let down once you have passed through the bar and entered the living quarters. The stairs leading to the bedrooms have a strange smell and the appearance is slightly tatty and dingy.

The rooms themselves are incredibly sparse and very small. There is no wardrobe or safe for your belongings and just enough room down either side of the bed to walk. However the ceiling does angle down on one side. The shower room has two small shampoos and two small soaps. That's it, as you wouldn't be able to fit anything else in as it's also very tiny. There is no air conditioning and the rooms are stuffy. Don't have a room on the road side as they are noisy. The bed is so uncomfortable with cheap duvet and pillows. Alarmingly there is no phone so if your mobile doesn't work you are stuffed if there is an emergency. However, all said it was clean and the towels were changed every day.

You have to reserve your breakfast and this doesn't start until 1000 on a weekend. The bar is lovely, but is not open as advertised until late. The outside furniture (chairs and umbrellas) are piled into the bar giving a most unwelcome feel, which is a shame as the staff are friendly and accommodating.

Food wise it was lovely, so if you want a meal here I could recommend it, but unless you are a single traveller who doesn't eat breakfast until late, I wouldn't bother staying here.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room away from the road as its noisy and the rooms are stuffy so you will need to open the window.

This hotel was a real disappointment. Looks lovely from outside, however the clue should have been that the place was empty. As already mentioned, it was very strange to be made to pay up-front for our rooms, I can only surmise that they have many people that once they view the rooms, decide to check-out pronto, we would have!!
To say they are compact and bijou would be an understatement, not enough room to swing a cat... a small manx cat at that! Approx 8 x 12ft. bathroom- 3'.6'' x 9'.
The mattresses are shocking, you can feel every spring, and there rooms very stuffy. Our party had 3 rooms and all complained of this issue. The rooms are clean, BUT the landings/hallways smell as if either something has recently died, or the manx cat has left a present.
Breakfast is not served unto 10.00am on a weekend and has to be ordered in advance, which is really restrictive.
We returned to the hotel at 2220 to find that the bar was shut and all the garden furniture piled up in the bar seating area, the staff agreed to serve us a drink, which we accepted, however, hardly made you want to stay for a night-cap, in amongst the tables and umbrellas.
On the upside the staff were really friendly and helpful, I can only think that these issues were all management policy.
We dined in the restaurant one night- food was fine.
In summary, we would not stay here again, much better (and cheaper) to find a travel lodge! What a waste of a nice building.

Room Tip: Find another hotel, there are no "good rooms" here!!
