Silent Valley Mountain Park, it’s all in the name!!! We visited here in early February. From main Newcastle to Annalong road follow signposts and go via Quarter Road and Head Road to get a scenic trip before arriving. The park itself is a beautifully maintained area with trails suitable for all abilities. The views are to die for especially looking along the Reservoir at the surrounding mountains. Entry is £4.50 per car with a helpful map and you have a coffee shop, museum, duck pond play park education area, toilets etc etc. As you walk there are benches and picnic tables everywhere. The colours were lovely and in the summer must be an absolute spectacle. We’ll be back then to have another look and take some more photos.

Stopped by Silent Valley on our way from Dublin to Craigavon. What a beautiful place. The view from the dam is stunning (in all directions) and, yes, it’s silent! While we were there the lake wasn’t up, so there was no water spilling into the overflow. Didn’t matter…it was still an enjoyable experience. Looking back at the Mourne Mountains with the lake in between is an unforgettable moment.

The walk from the car park to the dam takes about 10-15 minutes. You can get there either by a hiking trail or a foot path. There’s also a lovely pond near the car park.

As we were walking back to the car, we were stopped by a young lady taking a survey about our experience. She was incredibly courteous, good-humored, and didn’t take too much of our time.

So, if you’re in the area, we can recommend stopping by Silent Valley. We spent about an hour at the site.

You can walk around the Reservoir, have a picnic or visit the little museum about the history of its construction which is very interesting. There is a little cafe also.
