We spent a weekend at the Red Lion whilst visiting Skipton for Yarndale. It is a traditional pub with accommodation over it. The double room we had was very clean, warm with an ensuite bathroom. Breakfast on both days was fresh and generously proportioned. Staff were very friendly and quick to help.

Having been a once regular at the Red Lion, until recently I hadn't been in much. However for a variety of different reasons I have been in on 4 occasions in the last month or two- and the only way I can describe each visit is just with the word poor! It is such a shame that with its amazing high street location that this one historic and iconic pub has turned into nothing more than a tourist trap! On each occasion poor service, lack of staff, rude uninterested attitude from the manager and bar team. The cleanliness overall is abysmal - grubby, overflowing table and bar areas , dirty disgusting ashtrays and tables outside! Last visit was on boxing day afternoon - and just horrendous attitudes from staff, which would appear to be family run with the mother and daughter arguing behind the bar around a need for a break, the dad being non existent at the end of the bar, oblivious to the carnage around him! and then a sign appears that food will be stopping today at 6pm - if the reason given was as this is boxing day, every one would understand - but the excuse closing for staff training - which incidentally is very much needed - but on boxing day...give it a rest. Tourist trap - many better to visit that value and car for your customer - The Castle, The Two Sisters, and for food Le Bistro, Napiers as examples!!!!

Came to Skipton for a old friends birthday lovely train journey. Booked into the Red Lion. Large warm room, a little odd but nice room. Had a shared platter for lunch with liz. Very filling and at about £10 a bargain. Went to market. Really nice afternoon. Off for music and dancing later

Booked 2 rooms for 4 adults via Late Rooms and arrived at this pub with receipt for booking. We were met by the ogre of a manager who promptly and ignorantly told us"We havent received anything from Late Rooms There's one double so you could all share"No apologies/compassion/interest at all.Like it was our fault. Incredibly difficult to find alternative accommodation.Eventually after traipsing about in heavy rain we found another hotel(twice the price though). After returning some hours later to recover our cars from car park,we were again treated like 3rd class citizens.almost being ignored. The manager here is really in the wrong job!!! We made some discreet enquiries with other guests at the Hotel and it became blatantly obvious that our rooms had been given to FAMILY and our booking.legitimately made had been sacrificed for their benefit. What an all round horrific experience. We are all mature adults over 60 are well travelled but have never been dismissed in this nature.Do not stay here You have been warned.!!!

You'd think for the prices they charge, that they could employ some more bar staff!
15 minutes to get served, and there were only 3 customers at the bar!
Nearly double the price I usually pay for the same drink!
