What a tremendous meal. Staying with friends at chateau close by and visited with our hostess. I have to say that from start to finish I could not fault a thing. This place deserves Michelin stars and is a must for visitors in the Loire valley. We will definitely be back

The restaurant is located on the opposite side of the road to the church, with a reasonably well signposted car park.
Tables are well spaced apart and there is a small terrace.
There is a wide price range of menus. My wife had the menu du jour, which was reasonably priced and very good, but the sauce with the main course was a bit overpowering.
I had a slightly more expensive menu (around Euros 29, if I remember correctly). The crayfish starter was very good and the fish main course, served with mixed vegetables and a lovely sauce, was outstanding.

We got the tip for the Pigeon Blanc from the hostess at our B&B. From the outside it doesn't look much, but inside the restaurant is unexpectedly stylish. It is said to have been in the hands of the same family for at least 3 generations

The first night there we had the menue at 20 Euros, which was 3 courses. The main dish being "Duck Hamburger", which of course was not a burger at all, but slow cooked, very tender duck meat, styled like a burger with potatoes and veggies.

The food was so good, we went there the next day for lunch, had the slightly more expensive menue for 28 Euros and again had really good food. This restaurant and the young chef does not have a Michelin star but in my eyes it is very close. And I have been in 1 Star Michelin restaurants where I had food, which was not as nicely presented nor as tasteful.

For me this restaurant is all about taste, not expensive ingredients and this is just what food should be.

The young waitresses are very friendly and give a good attentive service.

Somewhat hard to review a place based on a New Years Eve Bash but felt it merited a review since there were not that many ....

We are starying at the Chateau de Challain and our hosts arranged reservations for us here on New Year's Eve. It was a crazy gala that we arrived at 10:00 PM for and didn't leave until 2:00 AM when most of the rest of the crowd (generally 50+ in age) were still dancing away the night.

Service was very good given that there were probably 300 people at the event. Courses were a bit slow in coming out but expect this was deliberate to let folks enjoy the music and dancing.

Probably 10 courses in all but here are some highlights

1) A few initial smoked fish appetizers
2) Wondeful homard/lobster dish
3) Flavorful and appropriately prepared venison or elk
4) Cheese plate with some of the more interesting cheeses we've had so far in France

So would love to go back for a more traditional dinner based on our own experience and the other reviews.
