The hotel is located beside Neptune's Staircase, a series of eight locks on the Caledonian Canal which connects Loch Linnhe with Inverness and the North Sea. Ben Nevis is located Southeast of the hotel, but we could not see the mountain clearly because of clouds. Our tour group was booked here for one night, and the Moorings was outstanding. Both our room and bathroom were spacious and very clean. The bar had a good selection of beers and a cozy seating area. Breakfast followed the Scottish model. We would stay here again, if it was our choice.

We were booked in another hotel which had electrical problems - they booked us into The Moorings. We were apprehensive, but had a stunning room and balcony (Room 32). It overlooked Ben Nevis and the Caledonian Canal - a great view.

Staff were very pleasant and friendly - a special mention for Carolann who welcomed us and was so incredibly helpful.

Yes, the bar is still in the 1970s, but the food was excellent and good value and we felt very looked after.

Located next to Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal, my room had views of snow-covered Ben Nevis. This is a dog friendly Hotel, and the Manager, Ailine went above and beyond to make us welcome after a long drive. The restaurant also happens to serve the best fish and chips I've ever eaten.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting the area for work. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Stayed in room 35 which was slightly on the small side. Very clean and tidy with a good range of teas and coffee available.
Excellent Breakfast with a large selection of cooked and continental options. Good Dinner menu available although I would suggest room for improvement on options available.
The Bar area does seem to have been stuck in a bit of a time warp back to the mid 80s, but it does a lovely pint of San Miguel .
Overall I would recommend staying at this friendly establishment if visiting the area.

I have occasion to stay in Fort William regularly and The Moorings is definitely one of the most consistent, and reliable places to stay. Good (and great) rooms, good breakfasts, friendly, helpful staff.

The location is also fabulous although usually being at work I don’t get the chance to explore it as much as I’d like.

Room Tip: The newest rooms overlooking Neptune’s Staircase are extremely pleasant on light evenings.
