“Ivy Cottage matched the online description and came up to expectations”

We loved the cottage and in particular the garden for meals al fresco. As the Olympics were on we watched a lot of TV and the only criticism we might have is that the sitting room furniture is very unsuitable for curling up comfortably. A 3 seater Ikea sofa and two armchairs would have been ideal. As we were on leave from Kenya, lots of friends came to visit and we were able to take them to delicious meals at the Cricketers just a two minute walk away. Our grandchildren also visited and had happy times in the playground and kicking a ball around the field opposite the pub. Being able to walk out of the house and up Hambledon Hill and surrounding areas was the icing on the cake.

“A Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 22 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This cottage was pretty wonderful, it is in a very quiet location, a lovely play area and swing park for children on a few steps from the door.
Very helpful management, very fast internet for a city location!! unbelievable for a country village!.
We took our 2 children with us, they loved it also especially the park just across the road. ( 12 and 14 yrs old )
We will definitely book to stay here again I simply can't find anything bad to say about it...

Many thanks

Michael and Tracy

“Spacious, clean and comfortable with a superb cottage garden”

This cottage is ideally located for exploring the Dorset countryside. It has been modernised without destroying its charm and its location with views to the front across Shroton village green and to the rear of Hambledon Hill ensure that you feel surrounded by countryside. The wonderful village pub - The Cricketers - is 3 doors away and serves great beer and delicious meals (a tip is to book, especially on Thursday's pie night) yet we never heard the patrons.

The beds are comfortable, the showers hot with plentiful water and the kitchen well equipped - the store of cookery books and spices could be inspirational for non holiday times! However, you need to bring milk etc with you on the first day as there is no 'welcome pack' provided and no village shop.

The tiled ground floor and porch mean that you can come in muddy from a walk and not be afraid of harming anything as you disrobe and get dry. The washing machine has a dry cycle as well as some surprisingly quick cycles.

The gardens are a delight and would be lovely to sit and read in on sunny days. The owners must love books as there are many to choose from, ranging from the history of the area to classic detectives through design and of course food!

“Wonderful cottage in beautiful, historic surroundings.”
Reviewed 16 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We had a wonderful five-day break in Ivy Porch Cottage. The cottage itself is roomy and although boasting all mod-cons, still maintains plenty of old world charm. Of especial interest to myself was the large amount of books about the region which the owner has amassed and which aided us greatly in planning our excursions.

The village of Iwerne Courtney/Shroton is simply delightful, with plenty of historic buildings and the lofty hill-forts of Hambledon and Hod Hill being within easy (if steep) walking distance. The views from these are simply breathtaking. Perhaps of more import is the profusion of first-rate local pubs! 'The Cricketers', situated just a few yards away from the cottage, is absolutely superb, and 'The Saxon Inn' at nearby Child Okeford is highly recommended too.

Shroton is well-placed to visit much of Dorset and Wiltshire, although in the immediate vicinity Shaftesbury is a lovely market town with plenty of shops and attractions and Kingston Lacy house and parkland are a must (as is 'The Vine Inn' nearby the latter).

All-in-all I would have no hesitation in recommending Ivy Porch Cottage to readers and would myself like to stay again and explore more of this beautiful region.
