The worst hotel I ever stayed in India. Though located in serene rural, pangot area, this is highly overpriced for its quality. May be the consolation is that it is one third the price of hotels in Nainital. But with the quality and services provided, the price is four times inflated. Hot water is available at fixed hours. Rooms do not have heaters and when the thunderstorm came, power supply was broken down. we had to stay in the darkness and in damned cold till the morning. I do not know if they have a generator. But we suffered. There is just one person to mange the inn though the owner comes at times. He was struggling with the demand of the guests. Our dinner was delayed till 11.30 PM as they were struggling in the darkness to prepare foord. breakfast was delayed by 2.30 hours as the dinning is small and it accommodated families of guests by guests. There was no place for the driver to sleep and the plalce he was given was wet through due to the hail. we got him to our room. But morning the owner attempted to charge separately. When we argued he backed down. He charged separately for the driver although we had him with us and already they had added his part to our bill. So we were double charged for that part. Then when we pointed out he shrewdly pointed out that he had to do that otherwise, he will half charge the third room we reserved and we did not use as one of our friends did not turn up. As the amount was small and we did not want arguments with the owner for the 50% charge, we paid him extra charged for the driver's food. Rooms are big but not maintained. The room where we were it had a big crater. All in all, place is nice, out of chaos . But we think the hotel is over priced for the quality of services it offers . Please note that it is in a village and no places to eat. Only you have to depend on the hotel food itself . Nainital is 10Ks plus away from Pangot

Had a bad experience at Monal in Pangot. We had booked two rooms for three nights through Agoda (booking ID 51685490). On arrival on 15th August 2014 in pouring rain we were told by the owner that he had nearly cancelled our booking as Agoda had charged us less than he expected....? (I really do not know how this could have happened, can Agoda clarify this ?) However he gave us two rooms....was he doing us a favour ?? (last ones on the GF) both did not have geysers. Food was served in our rooms though service was quite slow. The food however was freshly cooked but always paneer and more paneer, we were promised chicken but it never came. We could not bathe on day of arrival as no hot water, (boiler not operational) no bathing again next day as no hot water, (boiler not operational). Due to heavy rain the water supply was cut off and no efforts were made to arrange water from the streams (other establishments had got tanks filled and brought). A small generator was placed behind our room and the noise as well as the fumes and exhaust filled our rooms, sleep was impossible. We gave up hope and decided to leave, which we ultimately did, after two nights, we had paid for three. The rooms are seedy and unkempt. Will not suggest this place unless the management really makes an effort to redeem the place.

Room Tip: Avoid this place, unless there is a dramatic change in the attitude of the owners and there is a major improvement in the facilities of the place.

We stayed for 1 night at the La Perle Monal, Pangot. We reached here quite late at night, without booking. The whole of Pangot town was practically dark with not a soul in sight. All hotels are badly marked here & you could easily miss the whole town completely.
After going back & forth across the small town, we finally went through a broken gate & could
see the building of the Monal, but couldn't find the entrance!!! (a first-time experience in my lifetime of travelling). We honked & kept our car headlights on & voila: 2 young boys appeared from inside. We realized that we were the only guests in the hotel & I was a bit skeptical about the safety or quality of the place.
I needn't have worried. The rooms were clean, big & airy with a big bathroom. The caretakers were warm & friendly & made a simple veg dinner for us at that late hour. We were feeling cold at night & they gave us a heater when we requested for one. On waking up the next day, we realized that the hotel was actually quite good with a great view. Overall a good stay (if you can figure out how to enter it. Trust me: it's weird … the entrance).

Pros:
Big airy rooms.
Nice location & view.
Good value for money: very reasonably priced.

Cons:
NO entrance :). We had to jump over a wall / fence to enter the premises.

Tips:
As Pangot is an hour's drive from Nainital, most of it on a dirt-road, I would recommend not doing this journey after dark (as we did). The route is not well-marked.

We hired a self-drive car through Autoriders from Delhi. They gave us a Wagon-R which was adequate for the two of us. Though the spare tyre was already punctured in 3 places which we unfortunately found out the hard way late in the night. They charged us Rs. 900 per day with a refundable deposit of 10,000. The car was quite old but didn't give us any problems. A great way to do a Himalayan self-drive road trip.
