“Loved it!”
Reviewed 14 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We stayed here, a family of 16 with 4 dogs, and it was perfect. The space is fantastic, 7 bedrooms, and 5 bathrooms. It's well equipped, lots of crockery, cutlery, glasses, and cooking equipment. A standard sized oven is a bit small, but we took a couple of slow cookers with us. It's clean, bedding and towels provided, and gas and electricity included. We had a BBQ on the patio, shame the outside light didn't work. It's a great location, we went to High Force, Hamsterley Forest, Barnard Castle etc. Couple of pubs in the village, have to drive a few miles to a shop. We loved it, and would definitely return.

“Great House, location, pubs, walks”
Reviewed 11 June 2013 for a stay in February 2013

We have been staying at Ashwood Lodge, Romaldkirk with friends for more than 10 years every February to celebrate husband Kurt's birthday. Very comfortable and well equipped house (with plenty of showers/toilets). Check out the Romaldkirk Holiday Cottages website for details of accommodation etc. Free WiFi ! Ashwood Lodge is on the edge of the village with two pubs across the green (Rose & Crown and The Kirk). The Teesdale Way and Teesdale Railway Walk pass through the village. Good pubs within easy walking distance in Cotherstone, Eggleston, Mickleton and Middleton. Barnard Castle (lovely market town) for shops, Morrisons and butchers, Middleton has small Co-Op. Cross Lanes Farm Shop (on A66 where you turn off for Barnard Castle) has Teesdale shorthorn beef (ring in advance to order). The Dickens bar at the nearby Morritt at Greta Bridge (shades of Turner and Scott's "Rookeby") and Bowes museum definitely worth a visit. We love the house and the area. Hope you enjoy Ashwood Lodge as much as we do.

“Perfect getaway for Family & Friends”

An ideal location for a week/weekend break for a large group. The hamlet was voted the Best village in England recently.Locally the restaurants & Pubs are brilliant at least one of every niche you could expect.Plenty of local walking to nearby villages leaving the car behind,What of the accomodation, the owners are attentive and the bedding and power is inclusive .There is plenty of space in the cosy farmhouse with superb views. We have been using the lodge for over 10 years and never been disappointed .The nearest shops are in Middleton in Teesdale or Barnard castle. What we do is arrange a Tesco delivery on our arrival day for the group which makes life easier. The area is perfect in any season. Can`t wait to go back.
