We went to Vitra after a couple of recommendations and we were not disappointed. If you can, take the architectural highlights tour - its rare to have so many world-renowned architects in such close proximity to each other and it is a real treat.

Most interesting part for me was the Schaudepot because of it’s historical overview. The Museum was too small imho to call it a museum, and the Vitra Haus was like being at IKEA; an IKEA for the more fortunate that is.
Liked the Hadid firestation; pitty it’s not used as a firestation...

I thought it wall all pretty great, but as an architect and an employee of Herman Miller, I'm pretty biased towards this type of place. This campus features some very interesting projects by several well know architects. I enjoyed walking through the archive museum with over 400 furniture items arranged chronologically out of the 1400 item collection. The Vitra Haus (showroom) is also highly enjoyable, especially if you're into modern interior design. There is a small, but very good cafe there. We also went through the Charles and Ray Eames exhibition, which tells much of their very interesting story and includes many prototypes of their furniture, along with showings of some of their more famous short films, including Powers of Ten.

I went several weeks ago with a friend and we took public bus from Basel (note that Basel bus day passes don't work on this bus since it crosses into Germany). Second time, I came from Zurich so had a car, which was much easier.

If you're into modern design, this is the place to go. The buildings themselves are innovative architectural designs, not to be seen elsewhere. And of course, if you really want to create your own chair(s), one can spend hours trying out the various display models; examining the different designs and even watching your own piece be partically assembled on site.

The campus itself was very big, I did get ticket to go into a couple of the buildings, however, the place I love the most is there show room house, it was soooooooo nice and it's free, I would suggest anyone with an interest in home decors pay them a visit!!!
