We had the most amazing holiday in this lovely villa. The location is absolutely perfect. We visited all the top Tuscan spots; Florence, Pisa, Lucca and of course Montecatini Terme and Alto! As well as some lovely local places recommended by the owners that really helped us soak in the Italian countryside.
Villa Oliva itself was fantastic. Huge spacious rooms that are tastefully decorated and have all you need. The kitchen is huge and had everything to make our own meals. We had several warm days to sit out on the terrace and enjoy the fantastic views of the valley and all the way over to the edge the Alto too.
It was a lovely relaxing peaceful holiday with the perfect mix of sightseeing, shopping, relaxing and Italian culture.
We will definitely be visiting again soon!
The farmhouse has spectacular views and total privacy. It is a little out of the way but that adds to the charm. It is close to many good restaurants and is a 10 minute drive to the Autostrada making it easy to see all of the Tuscan sights. The terrace is the best part of this property providing a wonderful place to soak in the sun overlooking the olive groves and hills. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, as are the bathrooms. Beds were of good quality and comfortable as were the linens and towels provided. The house is very large and comfortable easily hosting 8 people. We were excited to stay here based on the photos online but they simply cannot compare to actually seeing the property - all of our expectations were greatly surpassed!
Villa Olivo was perfect for our needs. It was quiet, yet close to the Autostrada, enabling us to visit the surrounding areas very easily. It was roomy & clean. Having our morning coffee on the patio area was truly delightful. We recommend it.
Villa Olivo is a nice old house, well restored, with good big bedrooms and a very comfortable sitting room. But it's on its location that the Villa really scores: deep in the Tuscan countryside, every bedroom has a view over the archetypal landscape of olive groves and cypress trees. The dawn chorus of birds was amazing, and we had fireflies all round the house after sunset.
And yet it's only 15 minutes or so drive down to Montecatini, where there's plenty of shopping, and you can pick up the train to Pistoia, Florence, Lucca or Pisa. With a car, you can also explore the numerous local hill-top towns such as Montecatini Alto, Serrevalle, and Montecarlo, which are within easy reach.
Then there's the Villa Medicea near Prato - a comparatively little-known site, with the most spectacular frescoes in the main reception rooms, and an 18-room gallery of the Medici family's collection of still-life paintings by mostly Italian artists of the 15th - 18th century. There is no charge for access, though you do need to book a place as visitors are only taken in groups.
And when art and culture palls, you can just walk from the Villa into the hills around; or drive a few miles south of Montecatini for a wander around the huge (1800 hectare) wetland nature reserve of the Fucecchio Marshes.
The location of the Villa was perfect in that we were close enough to amenities yet further away enough to have a view and feel like you were in the hills. The Villa was clean and everything was in working order. The time of year we went it was very hot so the upstairs bedrooms needed the fans which were provided.
